2019-2020 76ers Thread

Man.....a win is a win, but that's going to be a work in progress. Ugly. Brick city from the outside. I like Richardson though.

Boston wasn't much better. Made 7 of 26 from three vs. 7 of 29. I'll chalk it up to first game and not being in rhythm yet. I like the starters scoring distribution -- 15, 15, 16, 17, 24. Gonna need more off the bench. During preseason, I thought the bench would be much better than last year, and maybe it will be once those rotations are sorted out. But only 20 points from the bench isn't very good.

I thought the Sixers looked great last night. Sure, they missed a bunch of shots, but it was clear that nobody is going to score in the paint against these guys.

Richardson fit well, particularly on defense.

I thought it could be telling that Horford had the lowest plus/minus of the starters. Nothing against him, but it might mean this team could still struggle a bit when Embiid is off the floor.

Furkan getting real minutes. I guess after the game Brown said something about needing to find a shooter. Sure, why not.

Don't let the score or the time in the season fool you. That Boston team is pretty darn good, and the Sixers handled their business relatively easy, in a matchup that has plagued them for a few seasons now. It can't be understated what kind of confidence boost that kind of game gives for the season ahead.

It was only the first game, but yes, they need more from the bench. It looks deep on paper, but they still don't have that lights out scorer who can come in and fill it. They'll give it 40 games and go get someone if they don't have it.

nice win in Game 2 of the season, without JoJo, 117 - 111, over the Pistons. I don't have the stats (13 of 34), but the Sixers hit a lot of 3s, after not making many in the season opener.

Good win for the Sixers without Embid. Also, Ben Simmons had the assists but not much scoring. Horford and Harris and other cast stepped us nicely.

I am thinking Brown pulled Korkmaz and replaced him in the rotation tonight with Shake Milton and I hope that change sticks. Korkmaz needs to go to G League as he is awful and doesn't look to be improving.

Doesnt look overly promising that Furkin K is going be be able to step up and be an outside shooter the Sixers can count on. I'd like to see Milton start getting those FK minutes.

It will be interesting to see what the future brings for Zhaire Smith. He's only 20 and has one year of college hoops under his belt. Hopefully the G League gives him the experience to get back to the Sixers and contribute.

He needs to play a lot. SG is a new position. He will get that at WIL.

Horford did a nice job last night. Great addition to the team that we were missing. Korkmaz was horrible. It might be time for him to go. I had hope for him but it doesn't seem to be working out. Crawford at 39 would be a better addition than korkmaz.

Trey Young on the line for two. Makes one. Missed the second but the Hawks get the tip in to tie it. 7.4 seconds left, Sixers ball.

Hawks foul Embiid with 5.3 seconds left. Going to the line. Makes the first. Makes the second.

Vince Carter missed the three at the buzzer. Sixers win.

talk about stealing a victory. The Sixers played poorly for large chunks of the game. Mike Scott got evicted. The Sixers 3-pt shooting percentage was terrible. And the refs did not appear to have a very good game. I'm not complaining; just surprised they were able to pull out the W.

Something that has really bothered me about the Sixers this season....

KORKMAZ’S bright yellow clown shoes!!! They are brutal!

Not much else to complain about sitting at 3-0 and winning all 3 in different fashion.

I’ll save my bitching for after Christmas.

Milton has a hyperextended left knee. Hope that doesnt sideline him for too long. It looked pretty bad when he went down. Glad it wasnt his ACL. He was playing quite well up to that point. Thybulle's eight points and four steals also certainly helped last night.

The only thing worse than Furkan K's yellow shoes this season, is his play. He's been given a great opportunity to get PT, and I dont see him delivering for the Sixers.

Completely agree, FK has to go as he provides nothing. For a supposed 3 pt specialist he is really just an average to below average NBA shooter and the rest of his game is abysmal.

The officiating early in the season has been terrible as well all around the league. Way to many foul calls as the games just lack flow with a bunch of ticky tack calls and stars getting in foul trouble. Scott being ejected tonight was ridiculous, he didn't push the guy and the Hawk player didn't even fall to the ground. Flagrant 1 maybe as he did give him the shoulder, but just a hard foul.

Simmons really dominated Tre Young down the stretch as he couldn't handle his size and gave the sixers a chance to get back in the game.

Nice road trip for the boys in blue! Now come back home and keep improving with all the new pieces.

Sixers are 4-0. Pounded Minnesota tonight. Embiid and KAT went at it in the middle of the third. Both were ejected. The bench is improving. And I’m surprised by the chemistry so far given all the new bodies and roles.

Korkmaz puts up 17 tonight on good 3 for 8 3-point shooting and aggressive play. He was a spark off the bench.

Most surprising thing for me has been the play of thybulle. I checked the box score mid game and he had like four steals in 11 minutes, and it’s been that way in every game. That dude is a menace on defense.

Korkmaz could be an important player. The team needs more outside shooting. If he can provide some offense off the bench, he'd answer a major question mark of the offseason / preseason.

Thybulle has been a pleasant surprise offensively so far. Not that he's been great, but he's shown that he has something that looks like it will develop. His defense is insane already. He leads the NBA in steals with 3.0 per game. And I don't know how many times he deflects a ball and a teammate gets credit for the steal, or at least he disrupts the flow of the other team.

So far as a team, the Sixers are second in the league in point differential -- behind the Lakers???. I haven't been watching anyone other than the Sixers, so that surprised me.

Best part of that fight was that Mike Scott was on the bench! If he was on the floor, no doubt someone was getting their eye dotted and he would be missing significant time.

I was right behind sixers bench ,ref should of blew the whistle right way, don't think it would of happened. Both players were banging each other very hard first 2 quarters. I thought refs should of taken control better.

So what do we think is the over/under on Embiid's suspension? 4 games? 2 for the fight, 2 for the post game Rocky celebration/instagram and twitter tirade?

I have been VERY impressed with this young man. They said on the broadcast the other night he leads the NBA in deflections. Not bad for a rookie. The first few games he looked very scared on the offensive end, but that is slowly going away with more PT and he is now taking and making some 3's and driving the ball to the hoop on a few occasions. May be the steal of the draft this year and a very complementary part of this sixers team looking to win it all this year.

Zach Lowe

Holy hell. I wish we could have seen Kevin Huerter's face the moment he realized Thybulle had apparated back into his airspace. I imagine he resembled a character in a slasher movie who turns a corner and comes face-to-face with the killer.

Thybulle did not get credit for a block on that play, but something happened to Huerter's shot.

I have no idea if Thybulle will be ready to play in crunch time as a rookie in the playoffs, or develop an average 3-point shot. But he is already special on defense. I can't remember the last rookie wing to move with such liquid grace and speed. Maybe Kawhi? Thybulle is barely logging 20 minutes per game, and he leads the league in both steals and deflections.

Philly's size and defense -- No. 2 in the league behind Utah -- are absurd. What are you even supposed to do against a lineup of Thybulle, Josh Richardson, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris and Al Horford -- one of the Sixers' go-to lineups when Joel Embiid rests?
