2019-2020 76ers Thread

Brown should have been fired two years ago, you could tell the team tuned him out, So many bad decision in the past 3 years. Trading for Harris and not keeping Shamet, Not drafting Micheal Porter Jr instead trade Bridges for Smith who is a Bust. Giving Harris 180 million and Horford 109 million. The only thing they did right was trade for Butler but then let him walk.

The sad thing is if they had just kept that team of two years ago together with Covington, Redick, and the Big Homie, and just added pieces based on where they drafted, and did nothing crazy, they would be sniffing the finals. They overthought it and screwed it all up.

Sixers now talking with Doc Rivers about their coaching need. Thoughts?

Never understood the love affair people have with Doc Rivers as a coach. 13 teams have lost 3-1 leads in the playoffs. He’s been the coach of 3 of those teams. No thanks...

It's like he comes up with great game plans but then other coaches figure him out after a few games and counter his plan. Then for whatever reason he can't counter back unless he has a huge talent advantage (Garnett/Pierce/Allen).
I do think the Sixers players would respect him and he'd probably help push them to a good regular season record but like you said it's really about the playoffs.

What better options are available right now? Doc might not be the perfect coach, but he might be the best available right now. Sure, could go with a first time head coach. But that's a risk given the current window this team has with the core players.

Good hire. If those two “stars” can’t figure it out under his leadership the problem is one or both of them. Hopefully he tells Embid to get his ass down low and stay there.

A Doc helps and is a good start, but I think the 76ers need a surgeon and maybe even a heart specialist!

I like the hire...just a gut reaction. I thought I heard Lue was hired on the radio on Tuesday morning and wasn't thrilled. D'Antonio has had his ups and downs and despite recent successes was not effective in NY. The Philly sports fans and media are rabid (see Eskin, Spike above and know that his old man is 10,000 times more arrogant). Doc is a players coach who will demand their respect. He was a hard nosed player and been around the block as a coach. If the "stars" can't shine with him, it signals the official end of the process. Time for 21 and 25 to grow up (and learn to win).

Brett Brown’s playoff record while with the Sixers: .462

Doc Rivers playoff record while with the Clippers: .432 while never making it past the second round.

Maybe there wasn’t another choice and maybe it doesn’t matter. It’s a different voice which I’m sure will translate to some wins in the regular season but in Boston and LA now when Doc has left there have been locker room issues.

He was gifted 3 hall of famers in Boston and wins a championship 12 years ago. He’s still living off that.

The bigger issue I have, it seems like the Sixers management had no real plan when it came to coaching. They were just grabbing names. I hate to use Boston as an example but they clearly did some research and found Steven’s. The Heat’s Pat Riley hand picked Spolstra and stuck with him. The Sixers plan was to get whatever coach was fired from another team this year rather than identify a young innovative mind. I don’t know who that could be but that’s not my job. Getting a fired retread who has shown the inability to make changes and chokes in the playoffs is just lazy in my opinion.

Still waiting on those front office changes they spoke about as well.

This team is a mess.

I think Brett brown was supposed to be that young innovative coach, but that didn’t work so well.

Maybe Daryl will hire Hinkie back in some capacity. This is how he will come back into the Wells Fargo Center....
