PA Class AAA Finals Thread

You 2 set a redundant but very high bar for future PBP. :p

A 3rd caution on him so that's a point, 4-0. Sullivan in on a single, and he gets the TD, 4-2. Zapf out with about 15 sec left, 5-2. End

Per 3
Sullivan takes bottom. He's up to his feet and taken back to the mat. OOB with 1:45. Sullivan up again, and taken back down. Sullivan tries a switch, nothing, then to his feet and taken back down. OOB at 1:15. Blood cleaning on Sullivan. Sullivan up quickly, Zapf hangs on to the feet, and they go OOB at 1:07. Up again and a mat return, and OOB at 59 sec. Sullivan sits out, Zapf stays with him, and OOB at 46 sec. Another sitout, Zapf hangs on to the ankle, and OOB at 36 sec. Downingtown West gets their 1st State Champion

113: Louis Newell (Seneca Valley) vs. Sam Hillegas (North Hills)

Hillegas ranked very highly, nationally

Per 1
Hillegas tries a bit of a throw, Newall tries a roll and gets stuffed, and Hillegas locks up a cradle. They are OOB, and no back points, so 0-2. Crab ride by Hillegas and time runs out.

Per 2
Hillegas takes bottom. Newell flattens him. I missed a bit, and Hillegas had gotten an esc, 0-3. OOB at 46 sec. Hillegas with a shot, stuffed, and Newell with a snap down for a TD, 2-3. OOB at 0:27. Hillegas to his feet, tries a switch, and Hillegas nearly gets a reversal and swipes but time runs out, so nothing.

Per 3
Newell takes neutral. Newell in on a low single but they are OOB at 1:28. Hillegas with a reach, blocked. OOB at 51 sec. Newell tries a throw-by, Hillegas locks on the ankles, they scramble, and Hillegas comes out and gets behind for the TD, 2-5. Newell is flat, and there's not much time. And that's how it ends.

120: Julian Chlebove (Northampton) vs. Luke Werner (Liberty)

A D11 matchup

Per 1
Chlebove in on a low single, gets the other leg and gets a TD, 2-0. OOB at 1:26. Werner to his feet, but taken back down. Chlebove throws in a boot. OOB with 0:46. Chlebove throws in a leg again. Leg out, and a stall warning on Chlebove with 2 sec left. End

Per 2
Werner defers, and Chlebove takes bottom. Chlebove to his feet, and he's out, 3-0, and they are OOB at 1:34. Chlebove tries a double, switches to a single, elevates the leg, Werner rolls thru it, leg elevated again, and Chlebove gets the TD, 5-0. Warner gets tilted, and 2 NF, makes it 7-0. OOB with 21 sec. Chlebove really working for a tilt and gets 4 swipes before the buzzer, making it 9-0.

Per 3
Werner takes neutral. Werner shoots from center field, blocked. Chlebove with a fireman's carry and gets 1 swipe, 11-0. Werner gets out, 11-1. Chlebove in on a single, and gets the TD, 13-1. Stoppage for blood on Chlebove. 54 sec left. Chlebove working the right arm, goes to an arm bar, and he's cranking but Werner fights it off, and Werner actually gets a rev at the buzzer, 13-3.

Chlebove gets his 2nd State Championship, and he's only a sophomore. He is damn good.

Can anyone give a minute by minute update on the Spencer Lee final rather than waiting to post it all at the end? More dramatic. Thanks.

113 is why it can be so hard to tell about freshmen. Hillegas didn't do much on feet -- actually did quite a bit of boundary hugging -- but won with 2 counter takedowns. That said, Newell is very good, and that can't be discounted.

Sometimes freshmen wrestle closer matches because they're not as physically mature. Hopefully this is the case, and Hillegas opens things up more next year as he gains some strength. Going undefeated in PA as a freshman is no small feat. He's very good, just a matter of how good he can become.

Per 2
Lee defers, and DeSanto takes neutral. Interesting. Lee tried to lock a cradle, nothing, then DeSanto in on a leg, and they are OOB at 1:33. DeSanto kind of shoots, blocked, and Lee tries to get behind, great scramble, and Lee gets the TD, 2-0. OOB at 41 sec. Caution on DeSanto for jumping the whistle. Caution on Lee. Caution on DeSanto. DeSanto to his feet, taken back down. Lee working the left arm with an arm bar. Stopped for PD with 11 sec. End

Per 3

DeSanto wins, 5-6. Upset of the year, perhaps the decade. WOW

Lee's first loss in high school

HOLY SH** !! DeSanto beat Lee with a takedown at the buzzer!

DeSanto was better than Lee on his feet. Smelled blood in the water and took it to Lee in the 3rd. Earned it. Had Lee backing up, enough that I was kinda surprised Lee didn't get dinged for stalling.

(Very afriaid to go to HR right now.)

Austin DeSanto upsets Spencer Lee 6-5. Incredible upset. Up there with Henry Green over Nate Carr in the early 70's. Maybe the biggest upset in the history of the PIAA finals.

Hope everyone knows Spencer has a torn ACL...I am not a fan of him anymore but you gotta give him credit for even trying to wrestle in post season....That is why he skipped the bigger tournaments this year since the end of January !!!! Tough to beat even a decent kid on 1 leg....

Wrestling with a torn ACL? Wow. Hats off to Spencer Lee! Guts. Is that a good idea, if true? Also, pretty tough to wrestle with a torn ACL. As a fellow poster noted, unless we're talking Chuck Norris.
