I guess there goes their vaunted front. Remember how we struggled without Mustipher.

I bet $5 with Jer'Zhan Newton of Illinois that he could not finish a sandwich. I paid him. Who do I tell within the NCAA. i also bet Marvin Harrison that I could beat him in a 40 yard dash.....he won I paid him $5.

Shame that they will not be able to play in 2023........

Not a great last 6 months for Iowa athletics.

From Spencer Lee getting pinned at Nationals, to gambling penalties for Hawkeye wrestlers and football players.

Hard to feel sorry for their fanbase, which is one of the more obnoxious groups around.
But, but, but they wave.

How many head coaches are scrambling right now to make sure they are ok? Man, the Iowa wrestling time just got gutted over this. Could happen to anyone, any team, at any time. But remember, don’t forget to place your bet on Draft Kings!!!!!
I was thinking the same. This could be happening in any university. All this gambling availability (easy access via cell phones) and continuous advertising is troublesome. Lots of vulnerable young people out there.

In a way, he is correct. You know this is going on at other places.
We certainly should not gloat about this. It is a major national problem that is now seeping into the locker rooms of many major universities. The ability to gamble via a cell phone is very alluring. I just hope PSU has been ahead of the curve in educating ALL their students about the dangers of gambling. It has ruined many lives and torn families apart.

It's legal to get paid $$$$ now. Especially as a highly productive DT, which are highly sought after. Why risk it over gambling when you can get paid legally now?
Lack of intelligence, poise and impulse control. Seems normal these days....

Wait until they put the casino in State College. Worst thing that I can think of for the college kids. They hook them when they are young and the prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed and while the neuropathways have high plasticity.

non sequitur!

And how do you know all other teams aren’t being investigated? Next time you get a speeding ticket, plead not guilty, tell the judge that the cop didn’t arrest another motorist who was driving even faster and let me know how that works out for you. Geez.

It’ll be a shame if their thin front starts getting nicked up during the game. Clearly any attempt to stop play will be a ruse.

Something tells me we are going to kick their heads in. You can be sure our whole team remembers last year’s clown show in the stands.

Hey dummy, read the thread. I already addressed this.

1) I never said anything about other teams being investigated or not. Don't put words in another's mouth.

2) I never defended Iowa, I merely said that Ferentz was correct that other college players are betting on games. It is a near certainty with how young people are hooked on betting and being pushed to bet on everything with pervasive advertising.

Guranteed this is happening at programs all over the country. I hope Franklin has been vocal about this with our players. I'd imagine he has, and that coaches all over are using Iowa as an example of what can happen.

I'd say it's two-fold...

First, the advertising and ease of moving funds in and out of casinos/sportsbooks have brought in a new market of people. It's never been easier to gamble in the USA.

But secondly, the enforcement and ability to catch guys doing these things is also greatly enhanced now that it's legal. You've been able to gamble on your cell phones for a long time, but stuff that was happening offshore or through illegal bookies wasn't being looked at by anyone. By taking it above ground, you're now able to now find issues like this.

You apparently have a resting comprehension problem clown.

I just asked a co-worker that went to Stockton how much time he spent in casinos in college...he said that he might have been there twice over his 4 years, and he didn't know any college students that frequented the casinos even being right outside Atlantic City outside of going to the bars/clubs in them occasionally.

I think you're greatly overestimating the impact that it will have on your typical Penn State student.

Possible but I don't think this coworker is a representative sample. There absolutely will be many college kids that go down a bad road due to this early introduction.
