If Bama, Oregon and Texas win CCGs, it is going to be a $hitshow....

People wouldn't have realistic expectations if they think that we should beat Tulane by 60. We'd be a two TD favorite, and would hopefully do the job to win it and move to 11-2. If we play them, we play them, but no reason to think anything less than a Delaware/UMass like performance is a letdown (or even Michigan St/Maryland for that matter). That's how teams like this end up beating the big boys, even when they have less talent.
Big wild card is opt outs. The #1 defense in CFB could have several, which makes a game like Tulane look very different

If Iowa, which is already ranked below PSU, loses to No. 2 Michigan in the Big Ten CCG, how would that, in itself, drop PSU from a NY6 bowl slot? Because PSU's win over Iowa becomes less impressive? I have to think that would have an exceedingly marginal effect, given that Michigan is, by all accounts, a profoundly better team than Iowa.

Also, how would Texas beating Oklahoma State in the Big 12 CCG affect PSU? Texas is already ranked higher than PSU, and a win over Okie State is unlikely to move the needle very much. It may enhance Texas' shot at the CFB Playoff if one of the undefeated teams does a faceplant on the final weekend, but how would that, in itself, affect PSU?

That being said, if the choice was a Cotton Bowl or Peach Bowl slot opposite Tulane vs. a Citrus Bowl slot against a representative Power 5 team, I would prefer the Citrus Bowl berth. Even if it pays a little less.
All P5 conference championship game winner are guaranteed a NY6 bowl so if Oklahoma State or Iowa win they take a spot from us.

Iowa could lose by 50 and it has zero impact.

We don't want chaos if we are to get a NY6 game.

I do agree that Citrus vs Ole Miss is a much better matchup, but these games are about money. Take the biggest check and run regardless of opponent.

We are #10 in the current playoff rankings. They aren't moving us below Ole Miss nor Oklahoma after the ccgs. The only games that matter for us is Iowa losing and Texas winning. If either of those 2 occur, we probably drop to Citrus.

Yep. And likely take our spot in NY6 and bump us to Citrus.

Honestly, I don't mind the Citrus. Jan 1. Sausage, Sauerkraut, Champagne, PENN STATE.... What a way to start 2024.

Obviously prefer the Fiesta.

It’s a bigger shit show if Bama, Texas, Washington and FSU win.

Do you leave out the sec champ? The big 12 champ that beat the sec champ? One or both undefeated champs? The one loss twice defending national champ?

What will probably happen...Georgia and Michigan win. Pac XII winner gets the 3 seed. FSU falls to Louisville and it comes down to a Texas-Ohio State debate if Texas wins. Texas and FSU not only need to win but must be impressive in doing so.

Conference championship games suck. It takes up one week of the season but only a handful of games are played and the playoff field isn't whittled down at all but rather some teams are shuffled into the playoff while others are shuffled out.

Which is why Rece Davis and others have continually said they need to do away with conference championship games and either add to the playoff or have every team play 13 games. Conference championship games are a waste honestly--pure money grab. Which, yeah, people say the same about a playoff but a playoff actually determines a lot more than the CCGs.
