Collegiate Duals

I think it’s possible and really not all that difficult to strike a balance between not wearing your guys into the ground and also not wrestling in them in difficult matches throughout the season.
Of course it's possible on a coach-by-coach basis. See: Dresser (or Cael, for that matter--though Rasheed missing his B1G final vs Martin wasn't our best look, IMO). I don't hold out much hope that griping about it on the internet is going to change too many coaching hearts/minds, but I guess it's possible if the outrage is big enough.

I just worry when the masses get riled up over this as it tends to feed the dual championship monster.

What is the right number? Cael Sanderson wrestled 40 matches a year. The most matches that Aaron Brooks has wrestled is 22. He has a max possible matches this year of 22. That would give him only 92 matches in 5 seasons of competition (mostly 5-easons). That does seem like overworking a guy. Starocci would max out at 86 after this season. So he will do in years what Cael and others did in two years.

I know this is the current way but I like seeing the starters out there every week.

Bouzakis report - loses to Farber from
UNI (Wrestlestat #21 at 133):

“Updates for those of you that can not watch. Bouzkais was in on a takedown that he nearly converted in period one. He got an escape in the 2nd and let the kid live on his legs. No attacks after the first for Bouzakis. UNI kid choose bottom and Bouzakis did not even try a mat return. Bouzakis tries an arm spin to give up the takedwon and gets ridden out for the last 1 minute +.”

Any chances Fix's absence is him working down to 125? Where did he certify? He'd breeze through if he could make it.

I'm no Fix fan but he'd kill the entire 125 field if he can do it effectively.

You guys that want to punish athletes by lowering seeds don't get the reason for seeding.

Lets say Gable Steveson ducks the whole.season except for the Bigs, wrestles enough to make.it to the show by forfeiting to 6-8th place. .

Do you seed him #1 ( he is the best in the weight) or punish him and seed him low where he will bust the bracket.

I wouldn’t call it being punished I’d call it a penalty.

If for whatever reason you miss a match there should be a penalty. Maybe make that penalty larger the higher your opponents “ranking” is . Manage your “”penalties” as best as you can to get the seed you want.

Life isn’t fair , you skip there’s a penalty .

Seeding in March should be earned not assumed.

I love that they let Rogotzke have a shot at Keck. Based on the result, I’m guessing they’ll put him back in redshirt, but why not give a shot to a kid who’s pinned everyone in sight for years now?

True, but guys like Brooks are wrestling freestyle in the offseason and making / trying to make world and Olympic teams.

In that specific example with that specific wrestler, I seed him fifth instead of first. If the tournament goes chalk and he is seeded first then he faces seeds 8,4,2 in the quarters/semis/finals. If the tournament goes chalk and he is seeded fifth then he faces seeds 4,1,2 in the quarters/semis/finals. That is as much of a hit as I give him without busting the brackets too bad.

$.02

Both of those guys sat out when they were hurt to allow them to perform at their best for the one weekend that matters. Not a good example. It's exactly the dynamic we're talking about.
Actually both wrestled hurt or not 100 percent which was my point. I think most of us get there is a point of not wrestling due to injury which they also both experienced

6th palace in Bigs with only a handful of matches and you seed him 5th. I guess it depends on who he beat at the Bigs

My point is , seeds matter to more than just those that get punished

Back to OP: Seems that being #1 at 125 is a curse this year.

After Penn State, I'm always cheering for Lock Haven, so I'm glad to see Noto win this match. Really hard for me to see the drop off of many PA state schools like Edinboro, Clarion, and Bloomsburg. I know, I'm old and with the exception of Edinboro I have to go back to the 80's to see that level of performance but I do miss that. Probably many reasons, just glad to see the Haven relevant to some degree.

Yeah, when I was in high school, Clarion was a national power.

They were just talking on Flo about how, by default, Camacho was probably the new #1 at 125.

And then of course he goes 0-3 here.

Crazy weight this year.
