Way OT. Hollywood's best castings of historical figures.

Charlton Heston as Andrew Jackson - twice. "The President's Lady" and "The Buccaneer/"

Simon Ward as Winston Churchill in "Young Winston."

Damian Lewis as Dick Winters, Band of Brothers and the actor that played Bill Guarnere

Agree on both. Frank John Hughes portrayed Wild Bill Guarnere.

The original Scarface, Paul Muni, in just about any biographical role he was ever in:

The Story of Louis Pasteur
The Life of Emile Zola

Muni could do it all to the detriment of his own career. He disappeared so far into a role that you forgot about Paul Muni the actor.

Title says it all. For me top 3 in no otder

1. Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison

2. Steven Lang as T.J. Jackson

3. Robert Duvall as Robert E Lee
George C. Scott as General George Patton
Gary Sinise as President Harry S. Truman

Ralph Fiennes as Amon Goth in "Schindler's List". Actual Holocaust survivors who were on the sound stage during filming saw Fiennes in costume as Goth, started shaking in terror because he looked so much like the real monster that was Amon Goth.

George C. Scott as Patton and Charlton Heston as Moses are my far and away Co -1's.

Gary Cooper as Sergeant York in Sergeant York
Victor Mature as Sampson
Henry Fonda as Nimitz in the 1976 original Midway
Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle in American Sniper
Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge
Peter O'toole as T. E. Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia
Anthony Quinn as Auda abu Tayi in Lawrence of Arabia
Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi

I dont get the Belushi or Sellers connections -were Jake Belushi and Clouseau historical figures that were not in my high school yearbooks?

So you believe the characters in the Blues Brothers, Inspector Clouseau, and Caddyshack are "Historical Figures", as the title of this thread specifies? Not sure about The Last of the Mohicans being historical.

Jimmy Cagney as Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey in "The Gallant Hours".

Once the four Flintstone figures, Agarn from F Troop and Private Ryan were mentioned, I decided to open it up.

Midnight in Paris has a bunch of good ones...

The 1998 movie "Saving Private Ryan" is one of the all-time great war movies. While much of the movie is a fictional account, the premise behind Capt. Miller's mission is based on a true story. That is the story of the Niland brothers — Edward, Preston, Robert, and Frederick — from Tonawanda, New York.Jun 13, 2017

Not quite the Flintstones....

Ed Harris, as either Jackson Pollack, or (my preference) Gene Kranz.

(That, ladies and gentlemen, is what is known in the biz as "range.")
He was also good as John Glenn in The Right Stuff. One of at least two movies where my hometown gets a cameo.

James Mason was a terrific Rommel.

Peter O’Tool looked nothing like Lawrence, but I can’t imagine anyone else playing the part.

Lawrence Olivier was a perfect Richard III
