tOSU/Strauss thread gone here, too?

Let me begin by saying I am not a fan of Jordan's politics or ideas. Having said that, the big picture is getting lost in the back and forth between what a 20 something assistant coach knew. The focus should be on what the head coach told the administration and what the administration then did or did not do. Assistant coaches are going to tow the line of the head coach in most cases. Ultimately, it was not on him to make the administration do what they needed to do. I agree with others when they state the problem is him denying knowledge now.

unless one of those asst coaches wants to be speaker,

I have serious doubts as to your alleged conspiracy. First, there's no evidence whatsoever of what you're suggesting. Second, the investigation was opened by tOSU in April and Jordan wasn't the focus. The allegations against Strauss appear to be well-founded. It's not even clear that the original claimants who came forward even named Jordan.
Surely you are not that naïve. Alleged conspiracy? No evidence, lol. A few tort claims and their lawyer fees of course will get paid out of court, sealed of course. Jim's career and rep will be ruined. Of course he was the focus.

Okay, well, I'll be over here waiting for evidence other than "lol" while you're busy completing your e-law degree.

Well I guess you just put me in my place. This whole case is a joke to set up Jim. Not grey at all. Black and white. BTW, Jim messed up by not saying something but I think all people have something they should of, could of. right? God will decide evidence

Quite an operation to be able to "set this up."

You'd have to go back in time and implant this image into peoples' memories, all 5-6 wrestlers would also have to be in direct contact with one another, echoing the same message, and, most importantly, Hellickson would also have been brought into the conspiracy to say what all of the others were saying.

Elaborate planning indeed!

Larkins Hall sounded like a nightmare. Besides not wanting to appear homophobic - though I’m inclined to give people a pass when a bunch of freaks are jerking off in your team’s facility, what kept OSU from cracking down on that stuff? At least at a much more liberal place like UPenn, the physical plant guys put metal plates over the Glory Holes that dudes kept drilling in the toilet partitions at the main student libraries. At least we could crap in peace without dudes leering at us. Larkins Hall sounds like a free for all.

Yah, I finally took the time to read up on some of the articles...

I knew there would end up being a PSU connection...WTF

I think what we are looking at is NOT an abuse case, at least not yet - however, given the exposure those types of examples could surface. When there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.

At this point it seems to be a sexual harassment case.
The statement from the six coaches appears to say this - no abuse. NO mention on their part in denying that sexual harassment took place however and I think they would have said that were it true. Either way, bad for wrestling.

while not exactly the internet holy grail.....my work here is seemingly near complete

This is probably to counter that HUGE and hard hitting slate article.......

And now it's up to 8.

The former wrestler said he doesn't have any personal grudges against Jordan -- he supported him when he first ran for office, despite identifying as a Democrat. He remembers directly telling Jordan about Strauss' behavior.

"I remember coming up and saying, 'Strauss held my balls longer than normal.' He just snickered."

Ya know, I discussed this at a wrestling function last night. Immediately, one name amongst all of us came up as a "doctor who was a little odd". He did many of the certifications for weight classes in our area of the state, and was "the guy" to see for skin issues, as he was well-versed in wrestling skin diseases. We always thought it was weird when he'd have strip down for certifications or post-season skin checks at tournaments. The on-going jokes where common amongst teams and whatnot. "Oh you went and saw Dr. X for ringworm on your arm, but he made you drop em, right?"

I think this OSU case is very different. I'm not trying to draw parallels to the predatory behavior. I'm drawing parallels to the ways they were handled, even just a decade ago. Times are changing, and probably for the better.

I had an unmarried 8th grade male teacher who was also our church youth group leader (this would've been around 1980-82) and it was well known that he had his favorites, who always happened to be boys (and I was one). He was very active in our lives and every parent trusted him, as he was prominent in the (Lutheran) church. And no, nothing ever happened that I'm aware of. Even as kids we'd make jokes, though, because it seemed odd that he liked only boys.

Fast forward to about ten years ago, he was arrested following a pre-teen boy into a public pool restroom incident to a larger investigation. An investigation into him followed and uncovered a computer HD full of child porn. I believe he spent some time in prison.

So now I'm forced to wonder what everyone in positions of authority knew or suspected about him at the time. I wasn't his victim, nor do I know if he ever even had any victims, but we kids had our joking suspicions and they turned out to be accurate. In retrospect it's pretty clear he shouldn't have been near kids.

But at the time, deference to authority was such that pedophiles had a lot of cover in large part because people didn't really want to know. I have a friend who went to Catholic school in the Philly suburbs who told his mother about such and such priest groped them and the kids got smacked for insinuating anything about a priest.

College and grade school aren't the same things, but my point is about the time period being one of an almost fawning deference to authority. Questioning a doctor about misconduct? It just didn't happen, his career was too important. And not getting molested was pretty much your personal responsibility, not the doctor's or the hiring institution's. It's one of the many reasons when I hear people wax nostalgic about the good old days when x, I tend to think they have selective memories, for good or ill.

seems like decent journalism. My question is are reporters digging into the other sports programs/professors that had complaints???

Seems to me if jordan has blame in this, tO$U has more....unless this is just political.

Seems like decent journalism if they're contacting people who worked at Ohio State in that calendar range.

If they're contacting people who worked for/with him in the Ohio legislature or in DC ... that's fishing by throwing a grenade in the water.

Not to make light of a terrible situation, but when I read about people peeping at Larkins Hall, I remembered a JV football game we played at John Harris High School in Harrisburg in the fall of 1970. As we were showering and changing after the game, we noticed a large group of young black women crowding around windows which looked in at the changing area. Our coaches told us to get on with it - that it probably wasn't the first time the girls had done that.

I understand that when a wrestler...or now 8 wrestlers tell a specific story...with details about what, where and when about an instance as they remember it....that I can deny the story or not recall or such. But to post statements from others saying that this never happened and that they are saying that I knew nothing......how can this be helpful or even possible? Unless you were with me 24/7 and heard every conversation and interaction I had with EVERY student/athlete ….you or anyone else can not possibly know what I knew or what I didn't know. To deliberately post such clearly impossible stories is either stupidity or an intentional attempt to divert from stories that may or may not be accurate. To be clear....I don't think for a second they are stupid. Now we throw in the classic "attack the messenger" and 'fake news" crap....it certainly doesn't seem like the behavior of someone completely in the "right"

Or better yet, why not go after Ohio State?
They did. I've explained this a few times now. The reason this is all coming out isn't because of Jordan, it's because Ohio State undertook an investigation into Strauss's alleged misconduct and have been interviewing people since April. Given Jordan's proximity to those allegations his role was bound to become an issue, but the point of the investigation is to determine Ohio State's liability, not Jordan's. Ohio State is smartly getting ahead of what they expect would be a class action lawsuit.

The headlines are obviously focusing on Jordan because, well, that's how the world works. But Askren's premise is wrong, that the accusations against Jordan are all motivated by a payday, because Jordan's knowledge or ignorance of Strauss's misconduct is a minor piece of the larger question regarding Ohio State's liability. Ohio State will eventually be paying out here and that number won't be affected by the attention Jordan is receiving for his role in it.

A "Gauntlet" is pretty bad right???

I remember a game called Gauntlet at the mall arcade back in the day, that was pretty fun with the boys.

This maybe not so much

The NCAA is only interested if swap out Ohio for Penn.
I would immediately say "that's not true" and it is really based on social media and media outlets (ESPN) making news of it. However, with that said, you may be right - can't believe all sport 'shows' are filling their platform with NBA talk.... still

Just my take on the "Ohio" "Penn" perspective.

In my opinion it isn't so much the media wanted to destroy Penn State and safeguard the good name of Ohio State. Replace Penn State with "Joe Paterno and Penn State Football" and compare the interest to that of "Ohio State and wrestling".

It is easier to keep Ohio State and wrestling in a news perspective, plus Ohio State seems to be working at framing the narrative.

Joe was the Godfather of college football and that brought about the news frenzy that Celebrity, sex and secret together bring. Then to make it worse, nobody from good old State ever thought of getting out front, narrative framing or simple crisis management. There was such a collective cover our ass mentality, that a thoughtful and planned response was never considered.
