Are the AP or Coaches polls obligated to vote the CFP winner #1 like during the BCS era? (Forget which of the two it was)

Coaches poll had FSU at 3 today and the AP had them 4. You could see FSU finish at 1 in one or both if they beat UGA and Bama and Texas win semi finals.

Bag money to the CFP committee members ended that.

I’m really hoping that FSU defeats Georgia in the Orange Bowl and claims a national championship as the only remaining unbeaten team. The hypocrisy would be objectively hilarious after how they treated UCF for doing the same in 2017.

Pretty sure the pollsters can vote however they wish, but it has no bearing on who wins the Natty. The winner of the playoff in the declared champion.

The BCS declared the champion as well but so does the AP. That's how you got BCS Champ USC and AP Champ LSU in 2003. Coaches poll contractually had to vote for the winner of the BCS.

LSU absolutely counts their 2003 title. https://lsusports.net/ncaachamps/

Would be interesting to see a split in the final year of the invitational.
