Mat Town Open II

Griffin beat Repos 7-0 for 3rd. Reinsel lost his 5th place match.

I think Lehigh figured out their 149 too.

Thanks Pete, great job today!!

This Evans/Kasak battle is underscoring the next stage of Cael’s program building (helped greatly by the portal and NIL) - true depth at multiple weights. A truly scary reality for other teams.

We’ve always had a badass in the weeds at a weight or so (Brown, Cassar), but now we’re getting to that point at several weights. Just wait until this 2024 class comes on board.

Without such depth, we could be vulnerable in duals but rolled at NCAAs due to the Herculean efforts of our studs.

@bnicolls no longer attempting to level the playing field. Reduced to hoping it collapses beneath the weight of all the Penn State studs.

Thanks a ton for the updates at lockhaven tournament.

Spencer Lee and Marstellar weren't taking out #1 ranked guys when they were in 10th grade, this is weird.
they didn’t have the opportunity so we don’t really know.

it was pretty widely reported that spencer beat dan dennis in a simulation match before the olympics after his junior year.

in 5 years, this might not be that rare, especially if there’s a weight as volatile as 125 where a true freshman who was #75 on willies big board is the #1 guy. this match happens on a high school mat last season, people are talking about how crazy it was that stanich took forrest to OT.

Yeah I think there needs to be a lot of context to these results.

Obviously kids being able to go to RTCs have helped them be better at a younger age. So that’s unique. But this is also a uniquely weak weight and also the one where college muscles have the least effect.

Correct, Mason Gibson beat Stanich out of HS. 125 is just brutally bad so elite high schoolers can compete, people forget Davis wasn’t some can’t miss blue chipper either. I think Bassett is equal to Jax as a prospect but how would he do against Vito? Or Dreshaun Ross against Brooks. Not apples to apples.
