That was a tough dual... I don't recall anybody pointing out that PSU wrestled back-2-back, vs Cornell getting an extra 2hr break. Not sure if that was a factor -- but I'm guessing it was a small factor, esp. early in the season.
Gotta wonder how their conditioning was tonight after many of them missing time from flu season. Anyway, I think we are going to be fine at 125 and 149 at seasons end. 57 and 65 a real concern but there’s always a couple concerns at weights every year. This year is no different.

At this point I don't know if we are worse off at 125 or 157??? I sure hope this Hildebrant thing happens, and my god what has happened to Joe Lee , he is just a shadow of what he was acouple of years ago, I used to love watching him wrestle, I really don't understand what has happened to him?

It looks like Iowa vs. NC State tomorrow in the finals of the red pool.

And Penn State vs. Arizona State in the finals of the blue pool.

The thing that strikes me the most from what I watched tonight is that we had no falls. Our guys wrestled with tons of heart, and I'm not knocking them; to the contrary I'm realizing how good we had it for so long.

EDit: sorry; we had one fall. One fall and I think one TF. Not my older brother's team I guess. :)

vs Cornell

125 - Not much to say here. Vito is a world class wrestler.

133 - RBY gets right to his offense and goes to work. His attacks and re attacks looked right on point. Have to be aware of the score. Could definitely got the tech. Luckily we didn't need it here, but could have. We will need those extra bonus points come March.

141 - NLee handles a former PA kid in Handlovic. I actually think the refs could have been a little harder on Handlovic as he didn't try much, granted he couldn't do much, but there still has to be some effort shown. Great workman like performance.

149 - I was spot on about Bartletts positioning, I was wrong about him keeping it close. Yianni is just that good. Its going to be pretty hard moving forward to win matches when you don't shoot. Bartlett showed in the first match that he has the ability to get to guys legs and drive through them ( granted it wasn't Yianni ). BB has the gas tank, the positioning, he can get off bottom, and can ride. Literally the only thing missing is his confidence on his feet. I believe he has the ability, just unsure of himself. I think he's starting to turn the corner on that, so I think we should all be patient with his offense for a little while longer.

157 - After Negrons effort, I thought we would see the debut of Lee and I was right. I sort of wish I was wrong. Lee showed very little. Are there underlying issues with him? Did he completely lose confidence with his loss to BearClaw and then Tony getting starts? Whatever he had at the beginning of last season I hope he finds again. This is still a big question mark weight moving forward, and I think the coaches will go back to Tony.

165 - Edsell takes Ramirez to the wire, excellent effort. I mentioned in my match recap with UNI about him staying in a crouched position after a shot, and it cost him in this match. Ramirez took a shot with Edsell crouched and was able to secure both ankles and get a takedown. Did that particular sequence lose him the match? Maybe, maybe not. Still proud of Edsell as he continues to improve every time he comes out.

174 - One of the top 2 matches of the match. Not going to lie, Starocci had me nervous, but he put on one hell of a ride. He was noticeably and understandably extremely frustrated after the match. Didn't want to slap hands with anyone or have anyone touch him after the match. Straight to the back for his cool down. I like it. I recall him making some statements after a couple losses last year, and this may be another log on the fire to help repeat as champion.

184 - First off, I think Loew either broke or dislocated a finger, so I hope that doesn't effect him moving forward. Moving forward is something Loew did very little during the match. He played the edge literally the whole match. Brooks was visibly frustrated and with good reason. At one point Brooks backed the whole way back to the center only for Loew to take 1 or 2 steps. Brooks looked at the ref and went back to his offense. Guys are really going to look for ways to slow him down this year, and as Cael told Taylor one year, "figure it out". I trust he will.

197 - The other top match for me. What respect for Dean's top game. 2-2 going into the third, and Cardenas takes neutral. Dean couldn't get to his offense, but 1 scramble was all he needed. Excellent work passing the legs and getting height to secure the takedown. I don't think anyone has earned an escape on him this year. The coaches I'm sure will use the tape to make some adjustments so he can get to his stuff in a similar situation.

285 - Actually surprised with how good of shape Kerk is in for how long he had off. Not sure of how long exactly he was out, but from my understanding he was under the weather for quite a bit. Went out there with good motion and had a hell of a shot and finish. The roll from bottom was text book, and I think there may only be 2 other heavyweights that could pull it off smoothly.

Looking forward to tomorrow night.

We Are!

Are the matches on at different times? It would make no sense to have them at the same time.
This is the schedule for Tuesday. Note: it is in Central Time. Add an hour for Eastern time if that is where you reside:

Tuesday, December 21

1:00 p.m.: 5th/6th place matches
3:00 p.m.: 3rd/4th place matches
5:00 p.m.: Red Pool Championship match
7:00 p.m.: Blue Pool Championship match

WTF, dude? The fewest points starocci had scored in a match this year was 13 while bonusing in each one, he gets zero offensive points against Foca, and the latter's effort was "pathetic?"
he laid on his belly for 2 minutes with a chance to knock of the returning champ. pathetic is harsh, but that was frustrating to watch.
