In HS during the early 80s I would be subjected to CBS’ The Guiding Light as it was among my mom’s “programs” (we didn’t get cableTV until 1986 based on living in a “rural” area) ...

Learned to appreciate the ridiculousness of soap operas, horrible formulaic plot-lines and dreadful acting .... even better - soap opera knowledge came in handy on countless occasions as an ice-breaker with women at parties/bars back then... i credit The Guiding Light with my singles-scene prowess, more effective than Drakkar and Izod shirts
