Wow....Rutgers really is a perennial top 5 school.

Averaging a half empty Carver is really an accomplishment of which to be proud. Love seeing all those empty seats. Maybe someday the wrestling attendance will approach men's basketball at Iowa University (men's bb averaged 12,547 in 2016-17).

That's the one area Goodale's Rex Ryan approach has paid off - they really do get decent attendance. Of course, having Iowa, Ohio State and Penn State (and Minnesota, sort of) visit in the same season bumps up the numbers quite a bit. Last year was bumped up by the Princeton match at the fball stadium. Season tickets are around 2000 and next year's dual schedule is not going to as excellent, so we'll see how it goes.

Anyone else surprised to see Okie State so low on the list? I know they've had a bit of a down year, and I'd be interested to know how these numbers compare to past years, but for the most successful college wrestling program in history you'd think they would fill more than ~3K of the 13,600 seats at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

All joking aside, 4th, 5th, 5th, and 6th the last 4 years is really good, so hat's off to Rutgers. That was preceded by 3 years outside the top 12 and two of those outside #18 or so. Again, I say good for the program.

Rutgers didn’t wrestle PSU in 2013-14.

Added full Big Ten schedule in 2014-15.
So there are your 4 years of better attendance.

RU’s schedule improved dramatically as they joined the B1G. Looks like their attendance bump matches the BT schedule.

The home schedule will be a bit less exciting, but they haven't finished recruiting everybody else's wrestling rooms yet. They still may pick up another national champion caliber wrestler they can coach to an AA medal.

Winning team titles with class on display
I actually thought this thread was pretty benign. Can you imagine the response if a BWI poster would post something along the lines of this on HR? The invective would be entertaining to say the least. Not much here. Maybe one poster ragging on RU a bit too much. I guess you have to be here to understand the RU vitriol. A couple of jabs at the Hawkeyes, but nothing over the top. Nobody telling WT to GTFO or calling him a troll.

Congratulations to the Hawks, they consistently put a ton of fannies in the seat. As does PSU. As does tOSU.
RU attendance is growing as is their program.
OK State attendance is a little down, but you have to take in account their schedule this past year (they lost a 14K+ National Duals championship they hosted in 2017).
Fresno State is outstanding.
Iowa State is impressive considering their performance this year. I know they got a bump hosting the Hawkeyes, but they are far above other programs that hosted a top drawing opponent (PSU, Iowa, etc) this year.

Duh, thanks for the correction. Surprised you beat WT to it :)
I just objectively listed two schools on the list that are located in Iowa. WT may have received some positive emotional feedback while emphatically correcting your show of obvious lack of respect for the Hawkeyes.
I have to ask though. Iowa State is in the middle of the list, how was it you missed Iowa at the top? ;)

No doubt - though I saw a Hawkeye homer on TheMat laugh at your assertion. Just another poor soul in denial
my understanding is--there is a waiting list of 1500 seats for season tickets--I have no doubt that we could fill 10,000 seats on a regular basis---but of course 9000 of those seats would be filled with PSU fans that think wrestling was a new sport just starting 10 years ago :) according the the Hawkeye board-

Everyone's missing the real story here. How well does your team do with the hand it was dealt?

In other words, team points per average fan.
  1. Michigan 0.031
  2. Ohio State 0.020
  3. Penn State 0.018
  4. Lehigh 0.013
  5. Minnesota 0.013
  6. Oklahoma State 0.012
  7. Iowa 0.011
  8. Rutgers 0.009
  9. Iowa State 0.001
  10. Fresno State 0.000
Guess we have some catching up to do, but poor Iowa....

I love statistics....

Dang, Ohio State is still the best, second best ever.

This is undoubtedly true. That was the first year I got season tickets for Rutgers and it was the first time Ohio State, Iowa, Minnesota and Penn State all visited Rutgers. Oddly, the Ohio State match was wrestled at the College Avenue gym rather than the RAC, as the other "Big B1G" matches were.

What is the average price of a PSU wrestling ticket?
Do PSU ticket sales cover wrestling’s operational costs?
