It would be fair to ask each PSU OL and DL
If they really are interested in showing up the morning of game day? It might save a lot on laundry
bills.

Just think Maryland played UM better. Depressing to say but from what I saw yesterday Michigan at 7-0 still has not played anybody.

I think this is a physics problem as much as anything else (F=MA). Michigan line is bigger than PSU defensive line ( save, Mustipher). They appeared significantly larger (2-4 inches, and 10-30 pounds at least). Combine that with a very large wingspan that can swallow a 200 to 230 pound linebacker ( ignored continually by "referines")at just the right time, to allow the back to run for 60+ yard touchdowns. ---We "out athlet-ed" them in the first half....thats what kept us in the game for the first 2 1/2 quarters.. Our "D" was quick, and shut them down in the RED ZONE, when the field got smaller.
Our OL is significantly smaller than theirs, although it appears that we have some big bodied freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the roster that are presumably "developing". --We need 3-4 more O-linemen like OLU (left tackle)....then we can run the ball down everyones throat.
--This was simply a very good heavyweight boxer, outlasting (and ultimately, destroying....F=MA)a very good lightweight boxer.
---You won't like this, but Franklin's right. "we need bigger bodies" up front

PSU has 300+ Pounders across the OL 2 deep. All those words you wasted...
and the only one who significantly matches up is OLU. ---Wormley, Wallace, Effner Barely average 300. Effner is 290's. -- Michigan's DL had 320, 330, 350 pounders......F=MA. Words not wasted.

Go back and watch Michigan's games with Iowa and Indiana. They went toe to toe in the trenches with Michigan and only gave up around 160 to 170 yards - don't remember the exact figures - to the Michigan rushing attack. PSU gave up over 400 yards. Think about that Iowa-Indiana vs PSU DLs and LBs. That's just scary

Keep making up fake numbers these are updated to present not high school weight. Funny that the heaviest are not starters. Your argument that college teams need 325-340 OL to be excellent is Pure BS. Look all around the top 20... Maybe you should call the coaching staff and ask them why they aren't starting our 340 pounders ahead of the 290+/_ guys... lol

Not sure if you're conflating things, or what. My argument is F=MA ( force= mass X acceleration). Our OL is significantly smaller (in mass) than Michigan DL. The bigger, stronger force usually wins. --I didn't say...or even elude to our OL needing to be 340 pounds. I stated that we need 3-4 OLU's (about 6'6" 310 pounds , with long arms and good feet). If you want to argue that we haven't been able to recruit enough OLU "types"....go ahead. On that, you'd be right.
---OL is the most difficult position to recruit and gauge success at the next level.

We just got beat by a better football team. Penn State is actually a bit better than I thought they would be at this point. I originally thought after the Michigan game we would be no better than 4-2. I still think we have a deceit chance for 10-2. Certainly 9-3. I do not think we are going to see a collapse like last year. Too much good young talent that will get better and better. And better depth too.

Didn't you realize Auburn was as bad as they are or did you think Purdue was good?
There's no way anything less than 5-1 should have been tolerated right now
I still think we go 10-2 but yesterday showed how far away we are

As if you’re not tolerating something means anything. LOL !!! The team will be whatever it is whether you tolerate it or not. What a gasbag.

Sobering stats for sure...

I'm conflating nothing. The New England Patriots Offensive line weighs less than PSUs offensive line. Research first post afterward.

Purdue is 5-2 with losses to 2 ranked teams with a combined 11-1 record. They are tied for the lead in the Big 10 west and possibly the favorite at the moment. They may even be ranked again this week.

Auburn is worse than we thought but even they just stayed within 2 TDs of the #9 team that will move up a few spots this week with 3 teams above them losing.

You don't strengthen your attacks on PSU by exaggerating when down playing our wins. Look, no one has a bunch of wins over ranked teams at this point in the year.

Auburn isn't "worse than we thought"--Auburn was garbage on paper. The game yesterday wasn't as close as it looks

Syracuse beat NCSU without their QB--Syracuse has been set up very well with a cupcake schedule this year. Purdue barely survived Nebraska

Purdue nor Auburn are good. Central Michigan has already lost two MAC games. We all know our schedule is weak this year. Can't blame anyone--no one saw Auburn being this bad--we didn't know they'd foolishly hire Harsin but our schedule is trash. Trying to Purdue is a good team is scary and desperate.

I'm conflating nothing. The New England Patriots Offensive line weighs less than PSUs offensive line. Research first post afterward.
Research F=MA ? …… pretty sure that’s been done.—- At least my 10th grade physics teacher said so.

Again, Purdue is 5-2 with close losses to ranked teams with a combined 11-1 record. They are at the cusp of being ranked again and tied for the big 10 west lead. That's good, not great, but good.

What is your definition of a good team? Top 10?

Close--top 15/20 depending on the year. Sometimes more/sometimes less. This is a down year--there's very few good teams as the rankings currently show us..

Again, the expectation should be for us to always beat a team like Purdue. Why anyone would go into a season "expecting" us to lose is illogical. We're far more talented with a 6th year starting QB and a coach in year 9.

Well he is right, but why has it taken him so long to realize this? He sees the elite teams and can easily gauge the size of their lines and their ability to impose their will. Too me it has been his stubbornness to stick with a system that does not fit the BIG and allow PSU to reach "elite" status.

So then Penn State is currently a good team by your own definition.

Don’t think it has taken him this long, as he is an excellent identifier of talent, and a very good recruiter. It seems that a bunch of his top end OL and DL recruits that he’s identified over the years, have inexplicably gone elsewhere, and he/we are left largely with good athletes, but projects. Antithetically, he identifies top end skill players (QB, RB, WR, DB), and they largely stay/commit. —Could be the system….could be the position coaches… could be bad luck. —-and now, there’s NIL , ugh 👀

Identifying talent and getting said talent are both part of recruiting.

when we play USC and UCLA we'll be told that our O and D linemen are too big and slow for the california game

I saw a stat on ESPN (I think) that PSU gave up over 100 yards to each of the 2 Michigan backs BEFORE contact. Yikes.

IMO, these kids need to go full speed in practice more often. They play soft. Not to pick on Singleton, but he was in position to pass block and got run over by a guy no bigger than him. It's like they aren't prepared for some smash mouth football.

Frankly, I like Michigan's team identity a helluva lot more than I like ours.

Real simple - not that hard. Because of non-existent LB play, the PSU DBs were making tackles downfield. That no. 16 for PSU had a solid game and probably made the most tackles - or so it seemed.

This PSU defense reminds many of the putrid OSU defenses of 2020 and 2021 when they were void of decent LB play also. The result - they fired their whole defensive staff (minus Larry Johnson). The result with their new staff - LBs Eichenberg (sp?) and Chambers have played lights out this year - in fact Eichenberg is being mentioned on several possible AA lists. It all comes down to coaching

I understand why it happened. I just can't fathom the DL and LBs being that bad. Its one thing to give up a ton of yards to good backs, but to not lay a hand on them for 200+ yards is crazy.

It wouldn't shock me to see another pitiful effort like that this week against Minnesota. You know they're cooking up a heavy power run game plan. Especially since they will be missing their QB.

OSUs last couple years weren't up to their standard, but not nearly this bad. I like the approach though. Clean house of those who weren't getting the job done. Unfortunately, anything close to that level of accountability just doesn't seem to be there with this program.
