2022-23 Transfer Portal Thread

"Not a good fit for Penn State"....

98 percent of the portal. Basically we either need to fall in line or have the recruitment success in the portal roughly equivalent to Washington State.

Wonder what happened with Townley. Scott hasn't found a DT in the portal so far. Townley had been putting on muscle and was practicing at DT after coming to PSU as a DE. And when a player goes into the portal he gives up his PSU scholarship. So the staff must have a need and a plan for Townley or they wouldn't have used a scholarship to take him back.

So now Townley annouces he is coming back to PSU for his 3rd year. Now on roster at 6'6" 267 lbs.

Will he show up for Spring practice at 295+ lbs to add the size to the DL that PSU was looking for in the transfer portal?? Big framed young man that would seem to have the boness to eventually carry 300 lbs.

He will really have to hit the training table to get up to 295.

Will our DT depth keep us out of the playoff? I hope not. But Im glad he's back.
Yep, with the need to rush the passer in order to win games agains top teams, top teams need to rotate on the DL throughout each game much more than on the OL. Whereas if you have 5 great olinemen that can stay healthy, which is not the norm recently for PSU, there may not be much need to substitute....

There are lots of things keeping this team from the playoffs. Our unbalanced D-line is one of them. We run a defensive scheme that requires specific personnel up front but the composition of our roster (due to recruiting philosophy) has created multiple holes regardless of which alignment Diaz uses.

This is an interesting observation and one of several red flags I have seen. Some big, some small.

This article on the recent roster moves talks about Townley coming back and moving to DT. And adding size/muscle.

"Currently listed at 6-foot-6 and 267 pounds, if Townley can add 20 or so pounds, he could be a force on the interior at that size."

Let's say Townley is 270 now. Adding 25 lbs is only adding a little over 9% body weight, hopefully in muscle.

The two incoming LB's are rumored to be at around 195 now. PSU will want them at 215 to 220 to play LB in the B10. Even getting to 215 would require over a 10% weight/muscle gain. Both are pretty common place for 18-21 year olds growing into their frames to play college football.

Would be great for depth. Still would like to add 1 DT from the portal.

Amazing we were one quarter away from making it this year with so many things keeping this team from the playoffs.

Rumor has it that Malik McClain has registered for classes at PSU.

Of course so did Carter. Insiders? Any truth?
