RBY on You Tube

Right!! Love how candid he is. Plus now this is a 2nd confirmed report from a wrestler saying Iowa fans throwing out racial slurs. Crazy
I'm pretty sure Kyven Gadson and Robin Jackson (Kevin Jackson's wife) spoke up after the Gomez incident about this being a theme. Robin basically said "They think it's okay to say the N Word in there" Mr. Kerkvliet alluded to it but did talk a softer stance by saying he met plenty of awesome fans as well. I'm pretty sure Mark Hall has hinted at it multiple times.

I will say, it's obviously still the minority of them but it's way more of a theme than "it's one bad egg" at this point.

EDIT: Here's the tweet, Kyven didn't speak up directly but he liked this tweet which seems to imply he has dealt with it a few times.

What a great interview. We don't often get to hear from these guys after they've had a little time to decompress and let us see their whole personality. And the rumor that RBY doesn't smile has been dispelled. I hope we see him next year.

Yes crazy, RBY said an Iowa fan threw out the N word to him, on his way out of the arena.
Ask Mark Hall why he was so amped up when he tossed Kemdog almost to his back and then had an adrenaline dump.......tiring in the 3rd. He won pretty handily at Big 10s. He was amped to the max before the match ....according to him...because of what was yelled at him before the match. Sadly....RBY wasn't alone :(

Wow .. that actually is insane then because the crowd got in his head then and it directly influenced the match. I always thought that Mark was just inspired by what Cenzo did and maybe felt he needed the pin because we were underdogs (Crazy Assad was arguably the favorite at the time) the last 3 matches.

I liked the part where he was talking about wrestling Micah Parsons. RBY said he took Parsons down at practice and declared the match was basically over. He talked about the 3 day weigh ins at the NCAA tournament and said he likes to eat and rehydrate after a match until he feels good. He said he was 8 pounds over after the DeSanto match, which is unbelievable. He likes to get in hot tubs to help him get rid of the water weight. Great interview!

That shit is non-negotiable. You say that in my building - you are gone. Turn in your season tickets and go **** yourself
That's not gonna cut it -- how exactly do they ID the perp?

That entire section is empty for the next match. Just like when Joe made the team clean Beaver Stadium for a few numbskulls getting into a fight. Make it painful for the innocent, so they'll police the guilty.

Go a step further — make Iowa wrestle an entire season on the road.

The bellyaching from Tom every-other week for being the visiting team in consecutive years vs. a given opponent would be hilarious. And tHR fans bellyaching about not having any access to ice cream all year would be icing on the cake.

If you'd empty the section as mentioned above it would suck balls for the 90% that are good fans..
But it wouldn't take long to self police..
The next match someone yelled something they would toss him over the rails.

Doesn’t it have to start with the administration and coaches deciding to come down hard on this type of behavior and not just providing lip service.
On the administration, absolutely.

Lip service is probably the extent of what coaches can actually do about it. Unless they personally witness the perp (highly unlikely) and take time during a match to point him out to security.

The 90% who are good fans are the ones who collectively decided the moronic behavior was within acceptable levels.

You are right though. If the collective is given responsibility for the behavior of their own idiots, their reluctance to speak up would disappear.

Security is just spread too thin. They can’t watch the fans when the coaches and one of their wrestlers are a bigger concern to public safety and must be watched like a hawk at all times.

You have to self police and condemn a certain behavior. You can't leave it in the hands of security.
Same as with the message boards. If more called out the bad behavior the HR would be a good wrestling board..
We don't get to see the good posters and great topics because it's over shadowed by nonsense and it hides the good.

True but Brands isn't personally escorting any malcontents out of the arena, nor are the fans. Their job is to point out the idiots to security.

If security is spread too thin to do that part of their job, that's on Iowa Athletics to fix.

Permanently revoke season tickets for the entire sections along the entrance unless the person is turned over. Somebody knows and isn't speaking up.

Of course this would require the Iowa administration, BIG administration and NCAA to care. Which they obviously dont.

By chance are you a civil litigation attorney seeking clients?

No way anybody goes straight to nuclear like that.

You're right. They wouldn't. It would be nice if one of the governing bodies would get involved and actually do something though. Besides blow smoke up everyone's asses.

Anybody want the ban hammer on HR? There’s a thread or two you could drop the OP link into and actually exceed 110% chance of getting your wish.

You mean HR isn't aware of the latest racist accusations thrown their way?? I can only imagine their response will be like

cover-ears-not-listening.gif
What ever do you mean?

I'm sure a second similar allegation would result in the kind of serious introspection and self-reflection the HR community is famous for.

In FIFA, the Mexican team was forced to play home matches in EMPTY and also partially filled stadia because of slurs being yelled at opposing players.
From what I read, last night's 0-0 draw still had homophobes shouting slurs. You can be sure FIFA will take action.
Anyhooo. It's an option for B1G and NCAA. Empty CHA

After watching the video, it sure doesn't seem like RBY is coming back. He had several chances to walk back his moving on and did not contradict the retirement assumptions.
Coming back would delay focusing on freestyle which I think he wants to give a shot. I am really looking forward to that, love to see him get a world medal.

The most interesting tidbit for me was RBY saying he weighed 145 when he wrestled Desanto at the NCAA tournament.

Yeah we don't get walking around weight info very often.

On Basch this morning Aaron said he usually walks around at 190 during the season, but the week before Bigs he allowed himself to get up to 200. 200, 16 frigging pounds above weight!!! No wonder why he lost to Amine. It was really interesting to hear him mix faith, focus, work ethic, and how it can ask get out of balance even for someone like AB.

I think it is way too early for any decision regarding next season for RBY. I huge part of it will be the financial side. Will it be financially worthwhile to come back for spring only? I think the fall semester is out of the question, he admitted that some matches he did not want to wrestle. The good news is since he wants to work on freestyle, he will be in wrestling shape if he comes back for the spring.

The racial incidents will not get the attention they deserve until another 3" binder is put together of recruits lost because of the environment. So many of our accomplished wrestlers are of diverse races and nationalities that to lose a significant number of recruits would certainly get some attention.

What a great interview. Holy Candid. Introspective. F**.

Carver needs to reign in their racists.
It is wonderful to hear RBY speak so freely about his Penn State experience. He seems like a terrific young man who has his head on straight and his priorities in order. His candid comments are welcome and certainly dispel any thought that Penn State's wrestlers are a bland group lacking individuality.

Wrestling ADS in the semis at 145 pounds!!! That is almost a Dake like weight gain. It's impressive he was able to make weight next day for the finals. I wonder what he weighed vs Fix?
