Gilman and Cruz coming up. FloCast is a little glitchy. Gilman working his underhooks on the left side, gets a pushout. 1-0. Gilman right back to left underhook, another pushout. 2-0. Cruz shot, stuffed and stalemated. Gilman with a right underhook and gets another pushout. 3-0. Cruz tried a inside trip, Gilman counters with his underhook, Cruz whizzers, Gilman behind for 2. 5-0. Gilman with a single, TD for 2, gets a lace for 2 more. 9-0. Gilman shoots, locks up a single, lifts and they go OOB. Gilman with a pushout and a point to finish a 1st period tech 10-0.
A little glitchy. How about SUCKS. Typical Flo.

Yianni up now against Cuba. Yianni takes a half a shot, stuffed. Cuba goes 1/4 Nelson but can't expose. Yianni checks out. Still 0-0. Head snaps and hand fighting, but not much doing. Cuba gets warned and put in the clock. Content to not do much and Yianni goes up 1-0. 30 secons left in the first, still not much action. Yianni gets warned for passivity. Goes into the break 1-0 Yianni.

2nd period starts with. Yianni straight on shot that is defended by Cuba. Stalemate. Yianni is put on the clock after another stalemate. Yianni not doing much and gives up the point and criteria, 1-1 Cuba. Minute and a half left. Yianni with another straight on shot with just over a minute to go, another stalemate. Yianni with a straight on single, can't bring it in, stalemate. 30 secs to go. Yianni with a cement job, can't turn him, but gets the TD. 3-1 Yianni. Cuba grabs a leg on a turn attempt, thinks he has 2, but no call as time runs out. Challenged by Cuba. Call upheld and Yianni wins 4-1.

Seriously w/ yianni--how many controversial calls can he be involved with?

These last two opponents are seasoned vets, but I have to think Nick Lee has a chance at Final X....
I agree. Yianni seems to struggle a bit with guys who hold good position and stay out of scrambles. It is an interesting matchup w/Nick, but Nick needs to be very clean on his shots and try to stay out of scrambles and positions where Yianni can use his insane flexibility. Can't wait!

Flo should start a simulcast where people who hate Freestyle can watch Freestyle matches all day and bitch as much as they want about how terrible it is. That would be awesome viewing. . . .
It'd be like the Manning-cast with insufferable wrestling fans!

In that Final, I was surprised by his inability to create angles. Everything was straight on. Yeah, he took a ton of shots, but all were a very low percentage of actually being finished cleanly.

Gonna have NLWC on NLWC crime at 74kg. Dake vs Gomez.

Handfighting to start. Gomez basically falls down, Dake gets 2. Locks up a gut wrench, rolls once each direction for 2 + 2. 6-0 Dake. Back to hand fighting and half shots. Dake shoots, gets a head inside single, pulls it in and finishes. 8-0 Dake. Gomez attempts a single, stuffed, reshot by Dake, gets the corner and finishes. 1st period 10-0 tech for the championship.

What's interesting to me is that the NLWC wrestlers over the past couple of years have been incorporating "folkstyle" wrestling maneuvers into freestyle quite successfully.

He seemed to be at a strength disadvantage against the cuban.

Mark up for Bronze vs the most Italian sounding Brazilian in the world, Bruno Nicoletti

Marky up against Nicoletti from Brazil.

Brazil looks massive! Hall snap to a front head, getting horsed around a bit, goes for cement mixer but countered nicely, no score. Brazil warned for passivity. Hall in on an underhook, looks ankle pick defended, up to a body lock but nothing doing. Hall with a counter on the restart for a TD, locks up a leg lace, gets 3 turns and a shot clock point. 9-0 Hall. On the restart, Hall with a quick snapdown, goes from front heads to drags, lots of motion and gets the TD and 11-0 1st period tech!

Looks like JB and Mike Macc already wrestled and won. Not sure why JB already wrestled his final. Macc was in a Round Robin.

Snyder up next against Arturo SilotTorres from Cuba.

Snyder working snaps and underhooks. Tries a drag, can't get the corner, but gets a pushout. 1-0. Cuba in on a single, lifts and gets the pushout. 1-1. Cuba tries a cartwheel (???) and Snyder gets a takedown. 3-1. Cuba takes a shot, Snyder stuffs but gets pushed put. 3-2. Snyder gets a pushout, but it looks like Cuba was grounded. The officials are talking about it. They give him the point, 4-2 Snyder. Cuba with another shot to take Kyle OOB. 4-3. Cuba shoots, Snyder counters and gets the TD. 6-3. :30 left in the first. Cuba wrestling on his knees near the edge, Snyder his a drag and go behind for 2. 8-3 at the break.

Zadick and Varner in Snyder's corner.

2nd period starts. Cuba slides (???) toward a leg, Snyder counters with a single, Cuba tries some sort of throw but goes straight to his back and it ends 14-3 Snyder.

Cuba had some odd technique they were throwing out there. Maybe figured, "to hell with it, let's give it a shot!"

Did you happen to notice when Yianni got his quarterfinal win via a bow-and-arrow?

Who is Zadick? Not NLWC… who were the other wrestlers corner coaches?

Quite the travel budget for NLWC. Their passports are filled.

Bill Zadick is the USA Wrestling national freestyle coach. Was an NCAA champ for Iowa in the 1990s and a freestyle senior world champ in the 2000s.
