Local Hero was the first that I thought of - great minds and all that :). Bagdad Cafe, The Girl in the Cafe, Cafe Cafe (kidding), The Black Book (Dutch film), Cannery Row.

My Favorite Year is a vastly underrated classic . . . has one of my favorite comedic quotes:

Stockbroker #1
: [peering over the edge of the balcony] I think Alan Swann is beneath us!

Stockbroker #2
: Of course he's beneath us. He's an actor!

The Year of Living Dangerously
House of Sand and Fog
Under Fire (Gene Hackman)
Meet Joe Black
Excalibur

Some of these, one might argue, are main stream (MJB, Excalibur) but they are old enough to have been missed by people under the age of 40.

Heist, another Hackman movie written by David Mamet.

"Local Hero" was the first one I thought of. Plus, it has a killer soundtrack by Mark Knopfler.

What was the Bruce Willis Pittsburgh river cop movie w/ Mr. Ed from Sex and the City?

Breaker Morant

Made in U.S.A- partially filmed in Centralia! And if that doesn't knock you out, Lori Singer certainly will!!

Other little known facts about this movie
-my dad made some of the sets
-a girl I graduated with had a cameo in a scene that was actually shot in downtown MT Carmel
-one of the other workers at the place they made the sets actually left with whoever the set people were and did that work for a few years after
