OT: Anyone watching The Deuce on HBO?

it pretty interesting so far, but I’m not caught up to current yet. I’m not really sure why they needed the twin brothers unless this is something that James Franco wanted. I love all of the characters and am anxious to see how they end up intertwined and making porn. I must have missed the episode where they gave info for what “the deuce” actually is.... is it the neighborhood, the name of a bar, or something else?

I'm watching...I love the nostalgic look of the era...the grit and grime of the city before everything got cleaned up. The storyline is a little slow and I'm hoping it picks up, but there's something about it that makes it hard to turn off.

My guess is that the twins will be a plot point later this season. Not sure if you recall but in episode one the "good brother" (the bartender) is mistaken for the "bad brother" (the gambler) by the debt collectors.

It is a very good show and I've been impressed with both Franco and Gyllenhall (sp?). It's also cool to see a number of actors from the Wire re-appear in different roles.

I saw ads for it during GoT and Silicon Valley and didn't check it out. Something about Franco as an actor - I just don't buy him in anything for some reason; always looks/sounds stoned. And have a ton of shows to get caught up on so it's likely not going to make the list anytime soon. Going to be a big hole when GoT and Silicon Valley ends though at least I still have Westworld. May check this out one day though.

I think Franco is actually doing a pretty good job in this. I don't think of him as a dramatic actor, but this has been solid.

I love everything that David Simon does, but gave this one up after three episodes. I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting, and James Franco playing twins is just goofy.

I am with Midnighter. There are too many other good shows on right now to waste my time with this.

Dude, I would have thought that you would be all over this... Franco actually does a great job, he's not exactly the constant stoned character, but I think he does so much better with a gritty, imperfect character than someone from a more mainstream position.

I've really liked the show for many of the reasons already listed in this thread. I will, however, add two more. I'm not really a boob guy but Emily Meade's might be the most perfect I've ever seen on TV.

I watched the first couple of Westworld episodes, but gave up. It wasn't horrible, but parts of it were so slow...

Westworld is a slow burn - and how often have you seen Anthony Hopkins in a cable TV show?! He's alone is worth the investment (doesn't hurt that the show sort of existential examination of artificial intelligence); you should watch the first season - big pay off at the end.

I watch it and I kind of like it but I can't say that much ever really happens in it. I just keep tuning in to see if something happens (and to look at naked women ... is that wrong?). Anyone else find it odd that James Franco would cast himself as his character's brother when he has an actual brother who is an actor?
