Iowa coaches better at talent spotting and development than they are at producing great results on the field. Iowa only played two Top 20 teams this year and was not competitive either time.

Iowa was in a division where that level recruiting, along with good coaching, produced consistently competitive and winning teams. With the new conference additions plus a change in scheduling philosophy, Iowa's ceiling may have been lowered.

Particularly in today's environment, the ingredients necessary to keep these young men disciplined and focused on team-oriented goals, is to win. We'll see if they can continue to perform in this manner in the future.
