Knock off some rust (hello, Lamar Stevens - still recovering from a sprained ankle) and this season has lots of potential... as long as Mike comes back, he is a vital piece of this team.

Things are tough enough for PSU basketball with Watkins in the lineup. It would be really tough without him. He's easily the best player on the team IMO.

10 pts
8 rebounds (6th in BiG)
3 blocks (2nd in BiG)
59% FGs (2nd in BiG)

As a redshirt freshman

This is Chambers last year, so looking forward to that. I trust that Sandy will get this cleaned up. Watkins isn’t going to matter one way or the other, we are lousy.

We have the talent to go dancing this year, Mark it down. It will be a competitive year for PSU. If not, Chambers is gone, but the talent is there. 4 4* recruits in our starting 5.

Struggled with Campbell, we will see. This is it for Pat, tourney or gone.

Watkins apparently having to overcome some academic issues before getting back on the court. As we have a 100% basketball graduation rate I don’t fault Chambers for handling this. If Watkins plays we could be a 20 win team and above 500 in conference play.

With Watkins, it's his head.

We're a 20 win team.

Its a credit to Chambers we were able to land that much talent. Unfortunately for Chambers, he can't make them shoot better. Hopefully tonight was an aberration, but they had plenty of great looks and just didn't make the shots.

That's why we'll miss Banks in spite of his defensive lapses. Our only 3pt shooter is Garner and he seems to have regressed.

Mike who?.....Gesicki?

I don’t know why we have to start this crap already... we are undefeated, have some interesting freshmen, and a respectable 2018 class... the big man from the class is waiting to sign his LOI until the spring, because he’s not sure whether chambers will be around next year, so by all means... please keep posting about chambers being gone after this year!

BTW, just who do you think Penn State would replace him with?

I agree it's premature to talk about replacing Chambers but the 2017 class (Wheeler, Buttrick, Harrar) was ranked 117th nationally and 13th in the B1G. That was atrocious coming after the year with Carr, Stevens, & Bostick.

There is no value in looking back, but Wheeler and Harrar may end up underrated. Also, a great recruiting class doesn’t trigger other great classes by themselves. It takes relationships and winning games. Chambers got caught with his pants down when he wasn’t expecting to have any ships in this class. His 2018 class is good (40th?), which will drop as other kids commit, but should end up as a competitive class.

As far as the winning games goes, the team was heavily reliant on underclassmen, including three starting freshmen. They didn’t know how tough it was to win games and wore down physically both within games and as the season progressed. Carr and Stephens are stronger and (hopefully) Watkins stamina has improved. They will have a better shot at closing out games and this will result in more wins. I am an optimistic and say that the floor is 20 wins and the NIT. Win a few more and we could go dancing.

When his period of discipline is over, he will be welcomed back. Don't know what his transgression was but it must have been a real duper.

There was no struggle with Campbell. Up by 30 at one point. Then they got sloppy. #3 for Campbell kept them in the game. ; good little shooter/player.

The score was 75-70 with 1 minute remaining. I think the biggest lead was 17.

This is ridiculous. Chambers loses games in the final minutes all the time. It has been going on since he arrived. He won this one, against an average non-major.

This team has the talent to go to the dance and Pat has to stop getting out coached in the final 10 percent of every game

Unfortunately, Shep Garner was tipping plays yesterday. Chambers has to fix this.

Don't think they struggled with Campbell....led the whole way and the lead got up to near 20 mis way through the 2nd half. That said, if MW doesn't get back in the lineup it will be a tough year. Campbell does have one of the top scorers in the NCAA

on another note....Kentucky did struggle with Utah Valley University as they were down by 7 at the half and ended up winning by 10.....so lots of teams do struggle early on in the season.

Kentucky may have struggled this game, but they blow most out.

It's the first game. We won. Things will get better. Gotta knock the rust off.

Indiana got crushed at home, Northwestern and Minny struggled. Not saying we beat any of them but it was game 1, without a big piece f the team playing.

On message boards, we tend to overanalyze everything - this is another key example of that. A big part of our team DNP'd, and another big part is still noticeably getting over an injury (Lamar).

This is not the PSU team that we will have on the court in a month.
