DOWN 2-1 first period. Jones let in an exrtremely soft first goal. This team just does not seem to have it this year, especially defensively.

I don't understand what is wrong with the defense this year. It's not as though they have a bunch of new guys out there.

3-1, msu. Holy shit. Penn State was controlling the 2nd period, but couldn't score. Suddenly msu goes on the power play and scores in the first 10 seconds.

Penn State leads the nation in shots on goal. Unfortunately, they don't put the puck in the net nearly enough given their defense.

MSU player runs into PSU player clearing the puck and they call a penalty on PSU. Ten seconds later it is 3-1 MSU. This team looks like it just wants the season to be over. No energy and definitely no defense.

Yep that was a crappy call. Also no clear look at if MSU kept the puck in. The far camera angle it looked like the puck went over the line but don’t know if the refs had the same view. Still this team has no energy or organization. Not many playmakers either.

Disappointing outcome. I think that PSU needed a sweep this weekend to have a shot at finishing in the top 4 in conference. Hopefully they can win one tomorrow night (it's been a while!) and get some momentum going into the final weekend of the regular season. Go State!

No they didn't need a sweep this weekend. They still have a shot at fourth - but they do need to win out from here on (and they need Ohio State to beat Minnesota tomorrow and at least split with Wisconsin next weekend). If those happen, we get fourth.

Right. My assumption is no better than a split with Minnesota, which seems to be improving as the season ends. PSU seems to split a lot of series this season! Also, Michigan beat Notre Dame and Minnesota beat Ohio State last night - worst of possible outcomes. But you are correct - if PSU wins 3 in a row and a few other games go their way, all is good.

At this point almost have to win B1G tourney to get into the post season. Even sweeping Minnesota next week will not get them high enough in Pairwise to guarantee making it in.

...and Michigan sweeps ND this weekend. So, PSU is tied for 5th with Wisconsin and can finish no better than fourth with a sweep of Minnesota next weekend. Not sure how the tie-breaker would work with Wisconsin (@ second in conference OSU) if both teams swept; series is even with 1 win each and 1 SOW each (PSU may have more goals overall, thanks to a 5-1 win).

...and it looks like the first tie-breaker is total number of conference wins, so Wisconsin owns the tie-breaker should that unlikely scenario happen (can't see both sweeping). Could make the difference between the 5th and 6th seed, however, if both teams split. Barring 4th place, PSU would travel to Yost or Mariucci.
