Scout takes a look at the top 5 safeties in the Spring update of the 2018 Scout 300...

2. ISHEEM YOUNG
Uncommitted. Holds offers from Penn State, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee & others.

Isheem Young

Imhotep Institute ChsPhiladelphia, PA
5'11" / 196 lbs
Scout's #30 overall recruit for 2018

Young breaks on the ball well, is physical in the running game and a punishing hitter when receivers come across the middle. He tracks the ball well and has the skill and speed to play man-to-man defense. His burst allows him to close quickly, and his speed enables him to cover outside of the hash marks. His tackling is good, and will improve as his technique gets better. Young is not only the physical leader of the defense, but he is also an emotional leader who makes big plays. He can play free safety or strong safety. -- Brian Dohn

To those of us that are twitter-challenged, does that mean he is picking soon?
That does not, but I think he mentioned a timeline in an interview from this weekend with Scout.

Him, Parsons, and Anderson-Butts were competing in a 7 on 7 tournament this weekend. I think they are on the same team and I think they won.

Could just be that the summer 7 on 7 season is getting underway. Haven't seen much that indicates that a commitment is coming soon for either Raines or Young.

Fields is #1 dual threat QB in the 247 composite. Scout has him the #3 overall QB.

SOUTHEAST
The early storyline in the South in the class of 2018 was the quarterback position and it is not fading any time soon. Trevor Lawrence, the top prospect in the country and Clemson commitment out of Cartersville (Ga.), remains the table setter but others in the region are making the gap close as time progresses.

The passer making the most noise here is Penn State commitment Justin Fields. A true dual-threat, the Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison prospect may have been the top quarterback Scout has seen in the South early into the new year. While Lawrence recovers from a foot injury, Fields continues to wow and close the gap.

Re: Jones vs Fields. People who've seen both of them play say Fields is the better QB and it's not even close. Wondering how that perceived gap ever existed in the first place, as they're both from Georgia. Does Jones attend a powerhouse program, or was Fields more of a late bloomer? When Justin was deciding between UNC, NU, TN & PSU, his talent was immediately obvious to a lot of us who wanted him as our QB in this Class of 2018.

FWIW, Rivals' Mike Farrell makes the case for Lawrence.

I'm sure he's a good quarterback, but for what Penn State wants to do no one will be better than Fields. A running quarterback is just a killer to try and defend.

From the Scout writeup on him:
Lawrence is still a little lean, so he needs to add mass to his frame, but he stands tall in the pocket and that weight will come in time. He is more mobile than most expect him to be.

4.51 40 and 6-3, 221. Fields is put together already.

If that is the case, it's a bonanza. Slade is obviously cemented in, as well. When guys of their stature are doing the recruiting for you, that is a huge bonus.
