It's not necessarily bad to see guys enter the portal. All depends which guys leave.
Cephus entering today isn't a negative. A lot more could follow that wouldn't be bad.

The interesting ones is true freshman who are leaving. Are these guys being processed or refusing to sit and wait their turn?

UGAs top 3 class from last year is down at least 5 players. Maybe more.

I think it's understanding where they are on the depth chart and being afraid of who is being added. Kids go to Georgia and Bama having always been the best so they assume they'll play immediately once the staff sees how good they are. Reality sets in after a year. Now with the portal they run and look for PT.

Two of them were lower rated psu flips. Both to Syracuse. Just making room for more players to tryout.

Not all running. Some get pushed out. If you are a coach and you see a kid can't play at this level then it is time to move on. Players want to make it a business then they better produce.

Unless they're a freshmen or RSF, a really good kid, ridiculous athlete with loads of potential and stuck behind big-time players, then we don't want anyone's cast-offs.

Some kids look great in high school and are highly rated, but have maxed out athletically. Other kids pass them by and it is clear what they are and where they stand.

Others are great athletes who were worth the shot due to huge potential, but after a year or so clearly don't have "it" as far as football. You cannot really teach a football mentality, good hands, work ethic, ball skills, aggressive attitude, etc.

Still others are kids who just are not good kids to have on a team.

We don't need these. We only should take transfers who performed at a high level at lesser programs but want more or players who aren't being used appropriately or players from other big time programs who are productive but stuck behind real talent

This is normal for USC. Last year I believe they had something like 20+ transfers.

Also, it is a good thing to see programs like Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, and USC process out under performing players to make room for upgrades.

Let‘s hope Franklin follows a similar strategy with Penn State’s WR room.

Almost ever major program processes 10-20 kids on their roster. Either you're a "have" or a "have not". The "haves" clean out dead wood....the "have nots" lose their players to the "haves". PSU and Michigan are one of the few schools with a low transfer rate.

So you wouldn’t have taken Joe Burrows? Or dozens of others that transferred for an opportunity and then excelled?

That should have always been true. If you don't perform on the field or in the classroom then you're gone. This isn't a charity. Barring injury if you're not good enough see the door. Penn State's been too slow to adopt that approach. That's on us not everyone else.
