Recruits postseason is underway

Desmond is a monster. I can’t believe this kid was more talked about. He couldn’t have many losses in HS. Desmond and Luke duo. We will be set.

Beating the NJ/Iowa recruit makes it even sweeter. I heard he is a cry baby. Great win Nate
Think he was somewhat overshadowed by Knox being that class forever.

I always assume that once kids get coached up at PSU their HS results will be a lot different. When Sealey basically wrestled Ferrari to a draw at Ironman I pencilled him in to never lose to him again.

Penn State recruits go 4-0 in the finals. The future looks bright!

National Prep Championship Final Results:
120 pounds: #2 Nate Desmond (SEM) DEC #1 Leo DeLuca (Blair) 5-3
126 pounds: #1 Luke Lilledahl (SEM) DEC #2 Charlie DeSena (Lake Highland Prep) 7-3
165 pounds. #1 Joe Sealey (SEM) MD #2 Emmitt Sherlock (Gillman School) 10-2
175 pounds: #1 William Henckel (Blair) DEC #2 Dominic Federici (SEM) 7-2
I’m concerned we have too many good recruits

DeLuca takes down
Desmond gets the leg in, but they go out of bounds.
DeLuca escape off a restart. 1-0
Desmond with a nice high crotch, and gets the takedown. Desmond catches DeLuca on his back & gets 2 nearfall too. 4-1
Desmond rides him out

P3:
Desmond takes down
DeLuca riding tough, catches Desmond on his back & gets 2 nearfall. 4-3
Desmond escape 5-3
Desmond fights off DeLuca for the win!

#2 Nate Desmond DEC #1 Leo DeLuca 5-3
Slip > nice pbp. Thanks. The “looking glass” says the future is “positive”.

This made me laugh

"Stocky defensive specialist who can’t finish leg attacks?

We got our guy baby!!!"

No concern here, Morningstar and Marinelli will teach him how to open up his offense😉

Today's action:

Nat Prep Championships Semi-Finals:
Nate Desmond - 120, Luke Lilledahl - 126, Joe Sealey - 165, William Henckel - 175.

State Championships:
New York, Semi Finals: PJ Duke - 160,
Wisconsin, Finals: Connor Mirasola - 190, Cole Mirasola - 285.

PIAA NW AAA Regionals Semi-Finals (to Qualify for PIAA AAA State Championship):
Dalton Perry - 139, Brock Weiss - 139, Asher Cunningham - 160
Brock Weiss beat Dalton Perry 9-8

175 pound Final: #1 William Henckel (Blair Academy) vs. #2 Dominic Federici (SEM)

The announcers said Henckel has a big frame & is still growing, so it looks like he'll be a 184 or 197 in college.
I was thinking the same when watching the match. He has a huge frame and apparently is in the middle of a growth spurt. I wouldn't be shocked if he never sees 184 in college.

Can he get bigger than that?

Signed,
Everybody who thinks Mirasola isn't a HWT
Yes he could. I think the announcers said he had a mid season growth spurt & is already having a hard time making 175. Plus, he's only a junior, so plenty of time left to grow.

165 pound Final: #1 Joe Sealey (Wyoming Seminary) vs. #2 Emmitt Sherlock (Gillman School)

P1:
Sealey gets to an ankle, but looses it on the edge
Sherlock tying up, working a 2 on 1
Sherlock really tying up Sealey & slowing the pace
Sealey gets to a leg, but Sherlock fights it off
Sherlock stall warning
Sealey gets in on a single, takes him to the mat for the takedown 2-0
Sealey rides out the final few seconds of the period.

P2:
Sherlock takes down
Sherlock escape/Sealey lets him go 2-1
Sealey in on an ankle, but Sherlock fights it off
Sealey duck under & gets the leg for the TD 4-1
Sealey lets him up, escape Sherlock 4-2
Sealey gets in on another ankle, Sherlock fights it off, but gets a 2nd stall warning, point Sealey 5-2
Sealey working for another takedown, drives Sherlock out again.
Sealey changing levels looking for a shot, but no dice.

P3:
Sealey takes neutral
Sealey gets to a leg, Sherlock fights it off & goes out on the edge. 3rd stall warning on Sherlock, no TD 6-2
Sealey duck attempt, but gets tied up in double unders.
Sealey gets to an ankle, but Sherlock fights it off & they're out of bounds
Sealey shoots another single & gets the leg. Sherlock fights it off, but gets another stall warning 8-2
Sealey takes a low shot & gets both ankles for another TD 10-2
Sealey ride out the final few seconds

#1 Joe Sealey MD #2 Emmitt Sherlock 10-2
Imagine getting to the National Prep Championship Finals, and getting called for stalling 3 times… 🤨

Love your PBP today!

It occurred to me that an uninitiated fan might wonder why Lilledahl wasn't arrested given the extreme and unprovoked violence you described. 😜
Thanks! I've never done PBP before this year & the last couple tournaments didn't have video coverage, so I was just watching the little red & green figures on the FloArena dashboard and trying to note the scoring. It was nice to do PBP of a live event where I could actually see what was happening. That definitely helps!

One thing I noticed was that it's hard to keep up with the PBP typing during Lilledahl & Sealey matches. They can get a takedown, immediately cut their opponent & then be right back in on another takedown lickety-split. I had to pause the video during their semi-final matches, so I could catch up with the PBP.

They were so dominant in their semi-final wins that their opponents couldn't really get anything going, because Lilledahl & Sealey were almost constantly attacking, so their opponents were constantly on the defense. They both used multiple different attacks from neutral. IIRC, I saw single & double leg attacks, duck unders, slide bys & ankle picks from both Lilledahl & Sealey.

That was a beautiful display of offense from those two. They looked really special, and appear to have the foundations to become future PSU bonus point machines. It'll be really nice having them in the room next year & watching their careers blossom.

Desmond & Henckel weren't quite as dominant, but they were really solid & not far behind. Plus, they're both juniors, so they have another year of high school to develop before coming to PSU. It sounds like Henckel is still growing too. They looked like a couple more solid kids with lots of potential to develop. All four of these recruits look like they're going to be rock-solid additions to the team!

I thought he was called for stalling at least 5 times. The announcers thought so as well. He was constantly warned about putting his foot on the line because he started several times being a foot or more off the line and immediately backing up to the edge so his length would allow him to stretch out beyond the "edge" and not give up the takedown in bounds. I am quite surprised he wasn't stalled out to a DQ. He never shot and immediately backed up to the edge after every restart. His coach/parents must be so proud :( .. clearly they put money on the "He won't tech me" line. Embarrassing actually.

He did get hit for stalling the fifth time, but somehow the refs bungled it.

PJ Duke wins New York State championship at 160 lbs; Wins the final by tech fall in 5:53, which was about 3 minutes longer than any of his previous three bouts (two pins and one TF).

Duke absolutely cruised through the tournament, though as stated previously he had little competition.

Think he limited his wrestling this year since he's coming back from injury and candidly, he has almost nothing to prove anymore in high school folk anymore. A lot of studs around his weight in high school and he has dominated them all for the most part.

I think Duke finished at 39-0 this season. If you consider around 40 matches a limited schedule, then yes.

And since we've got no place to go. Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow.

Brock Weiss beat Dalton Perry 9-8
Here's the scoresheet. Weiss won with NF. Under college rules (T3 and NF4), they would've gone to SV tied 11-11.

BTW, ignore the rankings in the tweet above. Nationally ranked returning S2 Maddox Shaw dropped from 145 for the postseason.

Weiss will be the 4 or (more likely) the 5 seed, with Shaw in the semis. Perry will have a decidedly easier path, in the same half as returning S6 Seamus Mack. That alignment would've been the same had Perry won regionals -- he would've been the 2 seed, and then Weiss would've been unseeded in Shaw's half.

Opponent was fortunate the match was stopped for a TF -- that was a spladle in the making.
Are we thinking Duke will take the same path as his HS teammate Ryder, skipping his senior year and working out with the NLWC?

Weiss beat Perry with a counter elevator. (Ignore the tweet, not a reversal, Perry was not awarded a takedown.)
