Kent State running game...

QB Woody Barrett - 6'2", 236; dual threat QB; in high school, a 4 star recruit; chose Auburn over Alabama and Penn State.

RB Justin Rankin - 5'9", 212. 12 carries for 147 yards vs. Howard.

RB Jo-El Shaw - 6'1", 229. 12 carries for 105 yards vs. Howard.

Good receivers - for a change.

Kent's run D is tough, as usual.

The O and D lines were figured to be a liability this season - until new Coach Lewis could recruit. But Lewis managed to fill a few holes and the smallish lines have been surprisingly good in 1st two games.

Good linebackers but their best one, Jim Jones, was injured on Sat. Haven't heard anything.

Kent has a potential All-American punter, Derek Adams (Manheim Central), who has been out w a hip injury so far this season.

All of this is free today.

With that kind of firepower how did they lose to Illinois?

Two key plays in 2nd half.
1. Leading 17-3, Woody Barrett overthrew a deep receiver... Illinois DB intercepted and returned it to the ?30 yd line. Illinois scored. Ruh roh raggy.
2. Woody Barrett ran it in to tie in the 4th but threw the ball in the air to celebrate. Yeahhhh... Illinois got the ball at about midfield on the kickoff.

Kent was 4th and goal with 1:30 remaining. Picked off.

PSU is a 35 point favorite.

Woody is making his first starts as a 1A QB. He has looked sharp at times, passing (Illinois), and bad at other times (overthrew several deep receivers vs. Howard). There's a YouTube video of him from ?2016 - throwing a ball 69 yards. Which Woody will we see this Saturday?...

We'll see the Woody who will be making quick, 3 step drops, and throwing 90 percent short passes.

Kaezon Pugh is at Howard now. They are a good MEAC school, Kent is a decent MAC school. You are reading too much in to this
