Georgia State

No way. It's a night game and Ga. State is undermanned. This will be a blow-out.

Can we stop this crap now? We are a top 10 team heading into the season. They are 2-9 sun belt team with a new coach. It will be night game at home. How the F do you think this is going to be a trap game? I swear some of you guys learn some buzz word and apply it to any crap you can think of.

OK - EVERY game is a "trap" game!

What concerns me about this game is how the Panthers played Wisconsin last year (see link)... it took the Badgers until half way through the 4th quarter to get the lead back and barely beat Georgia State by the time it was all over.

You go -3 on turnovers (as Wisconsin did in that game) --- you may get bit.

Georgia State actually IS decent enough. Some players on D, and despite their 3-9 record in 2016 I expect they'll win enough Sun Belt games to make a Bowl in 2017. Their D ranked 53rd last year in S&P+ - which puts them AHEAD of the likes of Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, Pittsburgh and Arkansas.

But, as long as we aren't overly careless with the football, we should win easily.

Don't forget that Wisconsin was a top 10 team last year and damned near lost that game to Georgia State.

Your point is well taken, but I think Wisconsin had 2 turnovers in that game.

So you are just going to ignore every other game they played and look at one game? How about the 34 point loss to Air Force or 25 point beat down af Idaho? How about 2 touchdown loses to power houses Arkansas State or Louisiana-Monroe?

The OP's subject was Georgia State, and that's what I addressed. Of course you're right about those other games and GAST's record, but that has nothing to do with how they played Wisconsin... and at Camp Randall I might add.

The point is, it's in between the Pitt game and B1G play. A blowout of Pitt, combined with some upsets elsewhere, could have this team well within the top 4 and believing its own hype. Franklin's teams, including last year, have a history of starting out flat. (In 2016 we edged Temple by 7; in 2015 we beat Army by 6.) It would be easy to overlook GSU because, frankly, most people are not aware that they even have a football team.

Of course, no one knows ahead of time and that is why they play the games and why the casinos are always making lots of money on sports gambling. One thing going in our favor wrt what you are saying is that the coaches can point back to that Ga.St. at Wisconsin game as a great example as to why they cannot take them lightly and that their best chance to win is to get out to a fast start and not let them hang around. That tight game probably helps us mentally prep for that game.

JVP, and many coaches, save their toughest weeks of practice for their supposedly easiest games. After a couple routine weeks of practice, maybe James will get after them in the week leading up to Ga. State so that they will be on fire and ready to roll from the first play.

A 38 - 3 halftime lead should put the ball into the 2nd team's hands for the last 20 - 23 minutes of the game. A 52 - 10 final will send us all home happy. But I'm probably not putting any money on that scenario, either!

Wisconsin's offense is a little easier to figure out than ours. GSU is not going to hold us down on offense and their offense isn't good enough to score with us.

All true. That's sort of the point. Still, there's no way Georgia State should have been up on Wisconsin by 4 points with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter... and I can assure you that Wisconsin wasn't expecting that either.

Will be a good game for our stable of running backs to get some work since Barkley most likely won't play, or will get at most 2 series.

No reason to risk an injury in a gimme game with a trip to Kinnick the following week.

I think the late start all but eliminates the idea of us being caught napping. The kids love the prime time stuff and it's not so much about the opponent as it is the showcase and different vibe that comes with a later start in great weather. The kids will be amped. In particular the D and special teams always have a little more juice. Franklin will do something to get them riled up to play and GSU will have trouble in just their second game under new staff.

Note that Georgia State plays on August 31, then doesn't play again until the PSU game.

I agree with the "crap" vs "trap" game. And I have sold my ticket. A 7:30 kickoff for the fans who are coming 3.5 hours each way is a joke

IIRC, I think the 2007 ND - PSU game was a 6:00PM kickoff.....seems like a reasonable time. Better than a 3:30PM game, not as brutal as an 8:00PM kickoff.

Don't remember any other games at PSU starting at 6:00PM.

I loved that 6 kick against ND. I wish we would could do more of them but then I also wish we could go back to the 1:00-1:30 games. :)

Didn't Brent Pry try to get the Head Coach job at Georgia St a few years back?

Wisconsin also didn't have their #1 RB at all or their #2 for most of the game. They also had a senior QB starting only his 3rd college game who was eventually replaced by a true freshman.

Georgia State is going to suffer an epic beat down. Even if Franklin tries to take it easy on them by pulling staters, our backups will pile up yards and points.
