Finally some good news about scheduling little brother

And we pick up Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in 2020, and the Auburn at home in 2021. Interesting times ahead! We'll see how ell our top 5 recruiting classes perform on the field against tougher out of conference teams!

It is a mistake. We should just beat up Pitt. Recruiting is already top 5. Is it going to get better? Auburn and Vt are not easy games. We missed the playoffs by losing tough games. The Pitt game is also a big draw.

One is as good as the next.

Appalachian State is a big draw.
Kent state is a big draw.
Temple is a big draw.
Buffalo is a big draw.
San Diego St.is a big draw.
UMass is a big draw.
Akron is a big draw.

And so on....

Scheduling Pitt serves no purpose. We need to play teams like Auburn and Va Tech...and teams better than that.

A sellout with a good chance to win serves no purpose? How about Akron? Buffalo? Eastern Michigan?

Make up your mind. Do you want tough games or easy games? Do you want to make the playoffs or not? If PSU misses the playoffs by ONE game and loses a tough OOC game by 1 point will you still want the tougher games?

Not really. Pitt sold out. Some of the others you listed did not sellout.

That's the point. It DOES serve a purpose. It keeps you alive for a playoff spot. The whole point and nothing but the point.....

It's going to be damned near impossible for any team other than tOSU to have a good chance to be undefeated in our division. If we ever have one loss, we want the rest of the schedule to look as impressive as possible. Pitt doesn't help us there, and in fact, as they settle into chronic 5 wins or less seasons, they will hurt us.

The Pitt game isn't a bigger draw than VT or Auburn. It's only a big draw for Pitt.

Plus, you'd need to convince me that Akron, Buffalo and Eastern Michigan are easier than Pitt. I'm not sure about that.

Bottom line is we need 7 home games, so we'll keep the three OOC games and swap our home and home with Pitt for a better home and home opponent.

I want tough games--never said otherwise. Easy games won't help us make the playoffs. A one point loss in a legit OOC game against a top 10 team helps you. It doesn't hurt you. I don't expect 3 elite OOCs but we have to do better.

This schedule is an embarrassment. It is beneath Penn State football.

How is a schedule that includes @ VTech, @ Nebraska, @ Michigan, and home games with OSU, MSU, Iowa, and Northwestern an embarrassment?

That’s 7 tough opponents right there.

Do you really think it helps our CFP hopes by getting 2 more P5 teams on the schedule?

The one constant in all their selections is that no 2 loss team makes the final four.

Umm....Pitt gets a home and away. Akron, Buffalo, EMich are payday games. Big difference there. Now, if you are suggesting we treat Pitt as a payday game and give them $1M to play at PSU every couple years, we can have that debate.

We missed the playoffs because we took our foot off the gas pedal in the 4th quarter of 3 games that cost what would have been an active 23-game winning streak.

Although I can't argue with most of these, San Diego St almost always fields a good team and is normally between 20-25 in polls. They were a good get for a one and done. Some MAC teams can be decent in any given year but never consistently.

The pitt football program is now at the same level as Akron, Toledo, Nevada, etc. and it is falling fast. We should only play them if they agree to play at our place. They are not worthy of a home and home series with us. It is that simple.

lol. Losing to Pitt cost PSU a playoff spot in 2016. Good try, though.

Losing to Pitt did not keep us out of the playoff. Losing to Michigan did. In 2016, we had a close loss to Pitt, but won the conference. Clemson also had a close loss to Pitt, and won their conference, but went to the CFP.

What was the difference? Clemson had no other losses, while we suffered a 39 point beat down at Michigan. That was the "unforgivable loss" in the eyes of the committee.

The idea that Pitt kept us out, and not Michigan, is something they like to throw around on the Lair to make them feel better about themselves lol

It's a 2 edged sword. If you win one of these games, it can also get you into the playoffs.
