Wikipedia has John Scott Jr. already at Penn State as the Defensive line coach but there's been nothing else reported. Very odd
I like the idea of a coach with his connections in the south, but he hasn’t produced any game changers...
I was basing this on the bio that someone postedJavon Kinlaw??...projected 1st rounder.
He is the third DL coach reported on Wiki. He may be the guy but Wiki means nothingWikipedia has John Scott Jr. already at Penn State as the Defensive line coach but there's been nothing else reported. Very odd

Burton from MSUBesides Robinson, who was the other guy?
I was reading up on him and he apparently took the SC job to be closer to his family. It sounded like his wife and kids never left SCEverytime a name has been leaked to footballscoop, that has been the hire. It will probably be official tomorrow
He’ll come in with credibility having coached in the SEC and has a future #1 pick (kinlaw) to his credit.I was reading up on him and he apparently took the SC job to be closer to his family. It sounded like his wife and kids never left SC
I liked his resume a lot...Burton from MSU

I have him on ignore...Well the pool-boy don't!
**{Not that we care what he says or feels}**
Truth? It’s the reason why the 5 star recruit at DT they got yesterday hesitated and almost flipped to LSU at the last minute. He wouldn’t sign his letter. I’m guessing SC told him who the next coach would be and had to do convincing as it was a big change this late in the game he had to consider.
If he can recruit 5-star DTs, then bring it on. His DL-men have been incredibly productive at every level. I wanted Elijah and then Burton from MSU, but neither of those two have been able to reel in the war-daddy 5-star DT recruit like John Scott, Jr, somehow did for a losing South Carolina squad. I like this hire better than the Clemson guy. It’s the reason why the 5 star recruit at DT they got yesterday hesitated and almost flipped to LSU at the last minute. He wouldn’t sign his letter. Funny Burch played for Hammond SC the team Southern Columbia beat 36-0. Muschamps son was the qb and I think they intercepted him 4 times. It’s the reason why the 5 star recruit at DT they got yesterday hesitated and almost flipped to LSU at the last minute. If it’s John Scott, that’s truly a “meh” hire, but Franklin is known to make stupid decisions in pressure situations.

The premise of your analogy is sound as it concerns the recruit’s proximity to the school, but the context is that South Carolina was 4-8 last year, so it isn’t really an apples to apples comparison with PSU...I would not exactly call his recruitment of Burch (5* DL) "reeling" him in. The kid goes to HS about 5 miles from the S. Carolina campus. He is from Columbia, lived in Columbia his entire life. Literally grew up being able to walk to the S. Carolina campus ....... would be like us recruiting a kid from State College HS, who also grew up in State College his entire life.
The fact that Burch actually went down to the wire and was 50/50 with LSU until he put ink on paper is a little of a concern.

No. I do not believe this is true. There has been 'drama' with Burch going back to the early signing day back in Dec. The story is that he actually wanted LSU. He was a S. Carolina lean for a long time because he grew up 5 minutes from campus. LSU came in and did a great job on getting into his head. He had doubts and would not sign in December. Mom strongly wanted him to stay in Columbia to be close to home but rumor is that he really liked LSU better. That is the drama that played out thru this past week. Story is that both LSU and S. Carolina thought they had his commit.
Good hire, and I'm sure he has started to build some recruiting ties down south and he's young at 44 but I'm little surprised he left since he is from SC and sound like his family too.
To many he's on the hotseat. His good enough and may turn out to be a better hire than anybody expected (less CJF).
I'm all in on this one.
