saw part of OSU game and also some of Bama game. The Bama game had quite a few fans - not many masks, band and ESPN coverage. ESPN crew announced like a real game - Kirk and Joey. Also, talking up Bill OB new OC. felt like a recruiting ad. not sure if recruits watch these games, so unclear if it helps their recruiting.Mild disadvantage. But it is a kick in the nads to the local businesses. And with zero logic behind it. Newsflash: games have been played with fans since fall and some are now at 100% capacity. If there was even a hint that this was a superspreader issue, the fear porn media would be all over it like white on rice.
Penn State should have been planning on this to be a ~25,000 event since Xmas. They could have charged for reserved tickets after accommodating students that wished to go and used funds to help local business, or first responders, or families impacted by COVID.
But instead the Governor wood lathe, President Onion dip, and the failed free-spending AD who f’d Cal sat on their hands.
So we are left with a streaming radio coverage (they could not even have TV, which they had in October?)... breathtaking incompetence.
Only if the Song Girls will be there ...USC is having a spring showcase on PAC 12 Network for anyone wanting to watch actual football with fans (beautiful sunny weather too). Coaches drafted the two teams. Might be fun.
So making football fans pay over $1000 weekend with a minimum 2 night stand 4X what you would normally pay is OK?? My son got his Masters at Ithaca University. If we happened to visit him and there was something big going on at his school or Cornell hotel rates immediately doubled. I'm sure the same thing happens on off football weekends in State College.
I've got no compassion for businesses like this. Their business model is to screw fans and student's parents when ever they can. They are vultures.
It’s also called supply and demand. If the price is too high, you and others VP an decide their goods and services are overvalued for your cash reserves. I agree, it is not worth my money for two nights so I drive fifty miles away and stay one night. So making football fans pay over $1000 weekend with a minimum 2 night stand 4X what you would normally pay is OK?? I’m sure Bama doesn’t need a spring scrimmage on espn to sell their programsaw part of OSU game and also some of Bama game. Wouldn't it be cool if all the State College businesses were state run (like PA's renown liquor business)? They could all have the same merchandise, menus, and prices, and never have to worry about failing. Also, they could eliminate the evil tipping that occurs in restaurants and hotels up there to further improve employee morale and customer service. So when I go up and support them by spending and they get rich, I'm the cause of that, too? In that case, what's my share?
Or am I only the cause of their business outcomes if they fail?
What a whiny bunch of crap.
I checked and it was College Township...so I guess that’s different than the Borough?Considering neither Beaver Stadium nor the BJC are in the Borough, that would not be accurate.
Yes, College Township is a totally separate municipality from State College BoroughI checked and it was College Township...so I guess that’s different than the Borough?
Well, it's actually University Park - but I'm sure College Township found a way to annex UP for tax collection purposes a long time ago. College Township has their own income tax for residents.Yes, College Township is a totally separate municipality from State College Borough
That would be incorrect as well. University Park has its own zip code for postal service, but it is not its own municipality. If it did, it would have its own elected officials, governing body, etc.Well, it's actually University Park - but I'm sure College Township found a way to annex UP for tax collection purposes a long time ago. Are these the same bunch of locals that passed laws that students without masks (anywhere, anytime) will be fined $300? Are these the same bunch that passed laws allowing police officers to arbitrarily write noise ordinance tickets, that have a minimum of a $750 fine, at their discretion? Are these the same people that are asking $1,000/night with a two day min for a graduation that only 2 guests are allowed to attend? These People? I could go on for days but you get the idea. Eff them!Lol, such compassion! I got mine so screw them! Great look for King Lib.
SC businesses rely on football biz to survive. Other cities have large populations to sustain them. Yes, areas around sports stadiums were hit hard but again they have a large local population to support them and most switched to a take out or delivery biz to survive until normalcy returns.
So, yuck it up at those that are losing everything they have worked for, including their investments. So when you make your next trip and have no where to eat, nowhere to shop, look in a mirror.
Not a duty but a nice thing to do...another missed opportunity because of stubbornness and inflexibility...now back to your Freeh report report review please.Lots of businesses EVERYWHERE have been harmed by the pandemic. State College businesses are no different. The notion the PSU football has some duty to them which requires them to do something the coach thinks is a bad idea is horsesh!t.
Exactly.I haven't read this whole thread so apologies in advance, but what was the reason given for not having a traditional Blue White game and televising it? I get maybe there isn't any attendance (or limited attendance) but why not put something on TV for folks to watch and get excited about? Seems odd.
If we are behind California in common sense, it may be time for onion dip, wood lathe, and Sandy to get on with their life’s work.USC is having a spring showcase on PAC 12 Network for anyone wanting to watch actual football with fans (beautiful sunny weather too). Coaches drafted the two teams. Might be fun.
Barron/Sandy logic?I don't believe I read or heard a reason for no television coverage.
Aaron Rogers’ charity for last 2 week hosting Jeopardy was providing funds to businesses in No. California harmed by COVID-19 shutdowns. What a mean spirited idea!Lol, such compassion! I got mine so screw them! Great look for King Lib.

“Most everyone”...fixed it for you...certainly teams that are relevant...don’t let nit picking word-smithing get in the way of a point made...Except not everyone else is doing it. Again never let facts get in the way of s good rant.
Of course it does. I go into a restaurant for lunch today and it’s all over the TVs. My young son is like why isn’t penn st on, Alabama must be pretty good and popular...and he’s into the game. Free advertisingsaw part of OSU game and also some of Bama game. The Bama game had quite a few fans - not many masks, band and ESPN coverage. ESPN crew announced like a real game - Kirk and Joey. and when exactly was the last time the Blue/White game was on national TV?You're sure..... Bama probably lobbied to to try and keep today's Spring game quiet and off of TV.....
Right. More free publicity. Any time a team is on national TV it's a sell to recruits, and everyone knows it.
Outdoor event capacity in PA is reportedly 75% capacity limited, and I've never seen a PSU Spring game that drew an actual crowd of 75K. The cover their butt PSU administration gave away a great chance for exposure and the restart of fans in the stadium in the name of "safe", whatever that is.
You're kidding, right? First, there's the sheiss show that is PA in general re covid. As a recruit I'm nervous what these idiots will do next year to top their ignorance over the past 365+ days. Have a good look at bama's game... there was fun in the sun, son. SEC is playing ball... i don't know what the B1G poopy is doing. Frankly, neither do they. What is the disadvantage?
And yet when ESPN Gameday comes to town to give free publicity on a much, much, much bigger stage, many here don’t want them or think that PSU should be turning them away.Of course it does. I go into a restaurant for lunch today and it’s all over the TVs. My young son is like why isn’t penn st on, Alabama must be pretty good and popular...and he’s into the game. Free advertising
The fact that you think that recruits think like you and would downgrade PSU due to PA’s handling of COVID shows how out of touch you actually are with those 16-18 year olds. You're kidding, right? First, there's the sheiss show that is PA in general re covid. As a recruit I'm nervous what these idiots will do next year to top their ignorance over the past 365+ days.

you seem to like calling anyone who disagrees with you "dishonest"- that's not an impressive traitThat's the sign of a dishonest debater - pretending that your opponent meant "absolutely", when its clear that he meant 'mostly, or many".
As if your argument depended upon Ball State holding a spring game.
Then, those arguing that there isn't a benefit in recruiting to the spring game.
Sheesh. Exhausting.

There is no "honest debate" here- or pretty much anywhere else- people cherry pick what info they present to bolster their position and ignore that information that does not. You do it, I do it, everyone does it. To pretend otherwise- that's dishonest. There are rules for honest debate. The Greeks knew them 3000 years ago. I'm simply saying that we shouldn't violate those rules when debating a topic.
Perhaps "dishonest" is too strong. Perhaps "intellectually dishonest" is better.
What term would you use to describe what was done?

Ohio state had thousands of people in the stands, were on statewide radio, and on the B1G. Penn state had Cory Giger.Given this is a dead period how exactly does not having the traditional Blue White game hurt recruiting?
Ohio state has thousands of people in the stands, were on statewide radio, and on the B1G. Penn state had Cory Giger.
I exaggerate but clearly their is a reason Ohio state outperforms PSU and will continue to do so. BTW they featured several top notch PA kids and mentioned that on the radio broadcast whenever they could. St. Joe’s prep (philly) has at least two kids who they expect to play substantial roles
I don’t believe we were ever kings within this conference.I remember when we beat them 63-14. At that time, we were kings, and OSU was another "second tier" program.
Nearly every year?and when exactly was the last time the Blue/White game was on national TV?
Nit picking is exhausting...does not change my overall point (as you know)...That's the sign of a dishonest debater - pretending that your opponent meant "absolutely", when its clear that he meant 'mostly, or many".
