I posted this in response to an inquiry in another thread, but since this the only clue as to who has possibly won or leads for starting positions, it deserves it's own thread.

One way to gain insight into the depth chart is to look at the way the team is divided for the B/W game. CJF stated that the Blue's are the first team players ("the One's"), with the White being the "two's"....

So, from the rosters the 1st team LB's (and possibly those in the fight to be starters) would be in order of their numbers: Brown, Farmer, Miller, Parsons, Brooks, Cooper, Darien, Johnson

1st team Safety's: Scott, Petrishen, Taylor, Monroe
Top DE's: Givens, Windsor, Shelton, Hansard, Jordan (likely not playing), and Immanuel (likely for to give playing time to a Senior)

There looks to be some senior recognition in the Blue team roster and the numbers indicate depth for the Blue as well, but if you are fighting for a starting spot and you are on the White Team, you are running 2nd team at best right now. For example Wade and Sutherland at Safety.

Surprises to me are Tarburton, Joseph and Handsard on the Blue.

Not when competitive equals 7-3, which could happen if you break up the o lines and run a vanilla offense.

I can see putting the supposed starters on one team and the twos on the other, but, for the most part, they have the ones and twos on the blue and the threes and fours on the white.

Yeah they must be planning on switching some of the Blue over to the White throughout the game because there isn't enough on the white roster to play a full game. It looks like there are 3 WR's on the white and they are walk on's.

I thought the same thing but changed my mind after TM put on a clinic two years ago. It makes the game less competitive but is a nice showcase for fans and recruits. No one really pays attention much after halftime anyway.

I will say the Minny spring game was great to watch - not sure how they divided rosters but it was really competitive and fun to watch.

Personally, I prefer one team getting the 1st Team Offense & 2nd Team Defense and the other team getting the 1st Team Defense & 2nd Team Offense, etc....

Brown and Toney have not bulked up. Both are too light. Gonzales is still 15-20 lbs too heavy as is Wright. Simmons is the same, but YGM is approaching 260. Barber....wow. 280.

I haven't gotten to see any of the other spring games. What was your take on Minny?
Did you see MSU?

I would say take all those heights and weights with a HUGE grain of salt.
Also I know a few people that have seen Toney on campus and class and they've told
me he definitely looks much bigger than last year.
Take if for what its worth, thats just what I was told.

Minny has an outstanding receiver (#6 - Taylor I think?) who made some circus catches look easy. Otherwise they look disciplined and improved (though hard to tell how much). They mentioned the recruiting class and how they expected a lot of early contributors. Didn’t see MSU. Don’t think many did ;).

I guess it's no surprise that Clifford is on the Blue and the Zembiec is on the White. I doubt Trace will play more than a few series and Stevens is injured so we should get to see both of the young QB's play quite a bit.

It's a bit of an understatement to say it won't be a fair comparison considering Jake doesn't have a scholarship wideout to throw the ball to.

Yep, it looks like the teams were set and then the post-2017 season roster was used for the heights and weights. We may not know what the true weights are until a new roster is issued for Fall practice.....

What jumps out at me is Wade on the White team. Is CF making some sort of statement to Wade? Isn't Wade starting this fall? What is going on with Wade?

Franklin said a week ago that if the season started today his starting safeties would be Scott and Taylor.

Wade will be fine. He's only been practicing at his new position for about 3 weeks.

He'll get more field time on the white team tomorrow. Plus he'll go against the 1's good stuff

Also note that Yetur-Matos is on the white team. He was 2nd string last year, so I would be shocked if he is not 2nd team to start the year. I think people read too much into these rosters. It looks like all scholarship upperclassmen are on the blue team. So some younger guys had to be bumped to the white team. Or maybe they just want some of these younger guys to get more reps against the 1st team, etc...

Players switch teams.

I don't understand or agree with the philosophy of loading up the blue team to the detriment of the white. You'd think they'd want a more competitive game.
“We're talking about practice! We're talking about practice... We ain't talking about the game! We're talking about practice, man!” ;)

Its interesting that you believe that people read too much into the rosters, and then go on to tell us a few things that you are reading from the division of the rosters......
