We scored 108 points in the first three quarters of those games. In very simplistic terms, it would appear that we tried to run out the clock in all three games, and it backfired.

so what do you conclude from this?
If you are asking me, we have a really good team that can play with anyone in college football. We've got a weakness in putting games away without blowing them off the field. When we have to make a first down or two using a low risk offense, we can't do it. This means we have a run game that is established by our passing game. When our passing game is marginalized, we cannot sustain using our rushing game.

that was the key to both losses against USC and tOSU (the offense' side of the loss). Against Sparty, we couldn't run on a sloppy field.

There could be a conditioning problem. Franklin was very upset about the slow starts last year.

Coaching and player issues. It seems that the pressure gets to them in the 4th. Stop changing the play calling

Exactly PSU did not play to win, just tried to run the clock out, (need to keep the peddle down and finish) and lost all three hope the coaching staff learns from those three.

It’s a lot of things. But quality depth is a huge issue. Talent is there and experience is there, but it’s not all experienced talent. Was an issue last year and this year. Last year, coaches schemed around the lack of depth (especially on OL) and brought enough young guys along (on both sides) by mid-season that we were able to perform miracles when we had little to lose.

We had some big losses, to graduation and injury. And now we’re almost always playing with the lead. Best runner in the country but our OL isnt good, even though it’s not far off. Losing Bates was huge, and may have been the tipping point the last two games.

On D, DL and LB are terribly thin—and we’ve lost some huge recruiting battles there. Would be ok with quality rotations to support the starters (or to supplant a few). Quality guys on the roster and more coming in, but most backups need more time.

This is a good team. And they were playing extremely well for a while, but that came at a cost. The season is wearing on and we’re losing in the 4th (the 3 games mentioned.) All the above, and we’re less than a few scores from undefeated this season and winning the rose bowl last season. That’s just a few balls bouncing the other way.

At the start of the season, most expected at least 2 losses. Why, because we were always a few injuries from dropping from a great team to just a very good one. Our defensive stats were unbelievable, and weren’t likely sustainable, especially if we had a few key injuries. But we still have a lot of great players and coaches and one heck of a future. Let’s check ourselves and support our team.

Last year was magical in part because of overcoming the effects of the sanctions so soon. Those effects are still hanging around and being managed. Heck, we have so much young talent that we don’t have room for all the great players who want to come aboard. The future is bright. We lost to two quality teams we could have beaten. We havent been elite (again) long enough to act this spoiled.
