Not a super deep weight but some definite tough guys with a pretty established top 2. Nokhodi comes in the favorite after back to back silvers in the last 2 worlds where he lost to Burroughs in both finals. He is wrestling extremely well and has wins over a good part of the field including 2 huge wins over Chance. He is the favorite for me but has a difficult path. He likely starts against Sari and then would have Usmanov in the quarterfinals with Chance hopefully in the semis.

Usmanov is the other favorite and hasn’t lost in over a year. He also has wins over many top guys in the world and breezed his way through Russian nationals. He got drawn into the bracket however and is in the top quarter along with Nokhodi. They should meet in a huge quarterfinal bout.

Mykhailov and Gamrelidze come in as the 2 and 3 seeds and will have some tough bouts along the way but should meet in the semis on the bottom half. Sakayev and Gulaev are 2 guys who could break through and make the semi on the bottom as well

Chance has a pretty great draw to wrestle for a medal. His first match will be against ALG or KOR and he will be a big favorite. Next in the quarters he will probably have the tough Avagyan but Chance will again be favored. Avagyan has been 5th at worlds before so he is no easy out though. Semis is where things get very tough for Marstellar. Nokhodi has hammered him twice with the matches not being close at all. In both matches Nokhodi created great angles through throw/pass bys that Chance never figured out how to defend. Hopefully feeling him twice and having tape on him the US coaches can come up with a game plan to help Chance defend those positions. I have Chance losing to Nokhodi and wrestling Usmanov for bronze. Super tough match but I say it knocks off the Russian and brings home a medal in his first worlds.

Nice weight with pretty good depth and 2 of the biggest superstars in the sport at the top. DT and Yazdani have dominated this weight for a long time now and look as though they will continue to do so. Their rivalry is probably the best in the sport even though Taylor now leads the series 4-1. Yazdani is still one of the best of all time and can absolutely beat DT. They are separated in the bracket so their next epic match should happen in the finals.

Dauletbekov, Amine, and Bagaev are the next tier. Dauletbekov has very good results and did beat Bagaev this year. They will meet up in the 2nd round with the winner likely seeing either Magamadov or Abakarov in the quarters and then DT in the semis. Super tough path for both guys. Amine has a pretty clean path to the quarterfinals where he will run up against Yazdani.

Im very interested to see how Magamadov does at the senior level. He has won back to back U20 titles with his last one coming last month. He is super young obviously but one of the better prospects I’ve seen in awhile. Him vs Abakarov in the second round should be a fun match.

The top quarter is probably the weakest. Jezierzanski got the 1 seed because he wrestled every ranking series event but isn’t someone I see placing. Gocen and the winner of Ishiguro vs Gaphrindashvili are my favorites to meet in the quarterfinals. Winner there will have the pleasure of getting hammered by Yazdani in the semis.

I don’t see anyway we don’t get round 6 of DT vs Yaz and I’m as excited as ever for it. There are a couple dangerous guys especially Dauletbekov and Bagaev but they meet early on and DT teched Dauletbekov last year while Yaz teched Bagaev earlier this year. They really have just separated themselves from the rest of the world. I have Taylor winning again with Yaz getting silver and Dauletbekov and Gocen coming home with bronze.

So this weight took a big hit and lost its 2 best guys with Ghasempour getting hurt and J’Den attempting to go up to 97kg. The 3rd favorite also will not be competing as Kurbanov from Russia has been replaced by Valiev. Lucky for Iran they have Azapira, one of the best young wrestlers in the world ready to step in for Ghasempour.

There is a huge group of guys that all have the ability to win this weight. I have Zahid, Nurmagomedov, Azapira, Akturk, and Valiev in this group. Azapira beat Zahid earlier this year in a pretty close 6-3 bout. Akturk won Euros beating Nurmagomedov in the finals. Nurmagomedov has very good results and was bronze here last year. I think he close to breaking through and winning it all. Valiev is the vet with good results going back to 2017 and is capable of beating anyone in this bracket. Zahid is talented enough to win it all but he needs to come in great shape and wrestle smart. Zahid has a tough road with Azapira his first match and likely Nurmagomedov if he wins. Win there and it’s probably Valiev or Yoshida in the semis.

Two of the big unknowns are Yoshida and Aitmukhan. Both are only 19 years old. Yoshida won senior Asians and this will be his first world championships at any level. His father is Iranian and has run a club in Japan since Arash was young. He wrestles the Iranian style and is going to open a lot of eyes this weekend. Aitmukhan just took 2nd at U20’s losing in the finals to one of Irans brightest young prospects. He also won silver at senior Asians losing to Yoshida in the final.

Maisuradze is the last guy I’ll mention. He has good results in the past couple years and took bronze here last year. He is definitely capable of medaling and maybe even making the finals but he hasn’t been wrestling quite as well this year. His quarter is fairly weak though so I would exp him to make the semis.

Zahid has one of the tougher draws hitting one of the guys I’ve highlighted every round. I think he is talented enough to win the whole thing but I have a hard time seeing him put together 4 really good matches in a row. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think he places. His first match against Azapira is key. If he can flip that result maybe it gives him the momentum to go on a run.

Just saying, now is a great time for @Hoosier Lion to hop in this thread and proclaim how Nick is going to do at this tourney. He has it right more often than not....
Crazy weight and crazy draw. The biggest match for him is Amouzad in the quarters. He wins there and wrestles for a medal. Lose and it’s 50/50 he is out next round. That other quarter with Mamedov, Musukaev, and Otoguro is insane. Whoever comes out will be battle tested

Hopefully @Hoosier Lion has the feeling that Nick is going to beat Amouzad

Nick is certainly going to be tested but I’ve learned over the last few years to never count him out before a match is over.

FIRE UP!
Can’t wait to see the losers of bronze battle for an Olympic berth.

Didn’t realize all of Intermat despised a guy I know until this week. I knew his father had his past, but uffda.

Facundo is definitely the training partner that’s going with Dake.

Carter was signing autographs with AB & RBY at a spikes game last week. still have to redeem my rain check for his bobble head. I still have a gut feeling that he’s in for at least this season if not, also next year.
Part of me thinks CStar is way too competitive to let ABrooks be the 1st PSU 4xer.

  • I guess recent medalists at non-olympic weights will have a chance at challenging for the Pan-Am games slot to qualify the weight. Will have to find that language to fully understand it.

Potential wrestle-off at the OLY weights, if they don't earn OLY bid at Worlds(top 5).

Any wrestler that has medaled at Worlds from '19-'23 can challenge the current rep.

Current list of medalists not on '23 team: Gilman, Fix, Yianni, Zain, Burroughs, Cox, and presumably Gable(wording doesn't say Olympic medalists, but prob included). Vito, Chance, and Zahid could be added if they medal.

We can circle back to this after Worlds when there's more clarity on which weights aren't qualified.

Fun weight with arguably the greatest wrestler of all time and another who might go down as the greatest American wrestler of all time in Sadulaev and Snyder. They are 2 of the best in the world right now no matter the weight. The field has a couple guys who can wrestle them close but I would shocked if either lost to anyone other than each other.

Matcharashvili, Magomedov, and Goleij are in the next tier down. All 3 have won world medals in the past and are capable of doing it again. Goleij wrestles a tough style that gives people trouble. He came seconds away from beating Snyder at this tournament a couple years ago. Magomedov is the best of the 3 in my eyes and will be trouble for everyone he faces.

Tazhudinov doesn’t have many results but just won the Asian championships. Ciftci and Yergali have good wins and some questionable losses but can beat meet guys in the bracket if they are wrestling well.

I’m going against most everyone in the world I believe and am picking Snyder to knock off Sadulaev in the semis and then winning gold. Sadulaev has only wrestled 3 matches this year and didn’t look very sharp. He only won 3-2 in his final match to make the Russian team. I know he’s looked less than sharp in the past but always was ready to go by the worlds. I just feel like this is the perfect time for Snyder to get his second win against Sadulaev and truly cement his place as one of the best American wrestlers of all time. I wish they would be meeting in the finals but the semis isn’t horrible. At least it’s not first round. I have Snyder beating Magomedov in the finals and Sadulaev and Matcharashvili winning bronze

Sadulaev is a pure joy to watch. Unreal athletic ability at 97kg. Once he filled out the weight he owned it.

The Russians will have a lot of pressure to perform well at World's. It will be a real challenge for those wrestlers to block out all the noise. Especially with Putin staring them down.. Can you imagine the pressure?

He is a joy to watch. Someone as big as he is should not be able to move like this!

Staying on Mat c... not sure there's anything interesting until Vito. Then jump over to D to watch Joey Silva.

Still haven't figure out how to watch split screen on the FloSports App.

I’m actually kinda sad Flo isn’t doing their watch party thing. It’s a good way to not miss cool matchups in these wee hours.

Vito with a beautiful double and quick finish. Working a lace but can’t quite get it. Back to the feet. And my feed starts cutting out!?!? We are back. Another deep double and clean finish. 6-0

Front head for Vito and he runs around for 2. 8-0 and a gut to finish him off. 10-0 in about 2:30. He looked great. Super quick finishes
