2022 Recruiting Class Thread

True.

But this is like the third OSU recruit he has claimed is de-committing........with no evidence. He previously claimed their 5* WR was flipping to Oregon, and their 5* LB was leaving.

Seems like an odd thing to troll them about. It's not like he's saying "I'm going to make OSU pay for not recruiting me", or "we are going to show the world that OSU isn't the boss anymore". Stuff like that. Making up de-commitment rumors is kinda stupid.

O$U has a whole department of computer guys who, in addition to making graphics, routinely create rumors about recruits from other schools decommiting. I never want PSU to lower themselves to O$U standards. I think having that department is pathetic. However, I have no problem with a recruit fighting them on their own terms. Kind of funny.

He should worry about himself and PSU -in that order.

Didn't know Murphy was coming to campus this weekend - that's good to see
His has been an interesting recruitment.

Was the top LB in the nation at this time about a year ago. From what I've read elsewhere......he apparently had a really bad showing at a few camps, and then fell off quite a bit. Big knock on him was his inability to cover -- too slow and athleticism was iffy. But that was probably a result of him not working out and staying in shape during COVID times. He's been reportedly working to get back to where he was, though I don't know how he's been showing lately.

This might be one of those recruitments where we could snag a guy who has fallen off the radar of Alabama, Clemson, and OSU for the moment, but could work his way back into an elite talent.

Notre Dame fans will be familiar with the last name of the Fighting Irish’s newest commitment in the 2022 class.
On Friday evening, Pittsburgh Central Catholic defensive tackle
Donovan Hinish
announced his pledge to the Fighting Irish, the same school that his older brother Kurt Hinishhas played for since 2017. Kurt has already played four seasons for the Irish, but took advantage of the NCAA’s extra year of eligibility for the 2021 season.

Kurt’s final year with the Irish is 2021, but Notre Dame will have another Hinish on the team in 2022 with his younger brother.
“The tradition is a big thing; I love it there,” Hinish said of Notre Dame. “The culture and atmosphere are incredible. The biggest thing of all is their academics. It’s one of the best schools in the entire world.”

The younger Hinish committed to Notre Dame over other offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Kent State, Pittsburgh, Toledo, UCF, Virginia Tech and Western Michigan. Notre Dame was offer No. 1 for Hinish back on Nov. 19, and the Irish instantly became the favorite to land his pledge.
Hinish has a relationship with defensive line coach Mike Elston that goes back years. Keith Gilmore recruited Hinish as the position coach while Elston had a stint as linebackers coach. But Elston moved over to coaching the defensive line for Kurt’s freshman season and has held that post ever since.
Donovan Hinish has visited Notre Dame countless times over the past few years and has gotten to know Elston very well.
“Coach Elston and I are close, and I talk to the coaching staff frequently,” Hinish added. “I think he’s a great guy and a great coach as well. We’ve gotten very close during the recruiting process. Overall, I enjoy talking to him and he’s an awesome coach.”
Donovan has had many conversations with his Kurt about what it would be like to be a student-athlete at Notre Dame, and he welcomes all of it with open arms.
“It’s definitely hard,” Donovan explained. “Their big thing is four years for 40 years. Kurt is grinding it out now so that he can set himself up for the rest of his life.
"As you’d expect, he’s partial for the school he wants me to choose. He always says how much he loves it up there.”

Actions speak louder than words. Kurt decided to play a fifth season at Notre Dame, showing just how much he does love being a student-athlete in South Bend.
“He was super excited,” Donovan said about his brother playing for Notre Dame in 2021. “He’s been busting his butt these past four years, and to get one more year with all of his brothers means the world to him. Seeing him that happy is awesome.”
He is Notre Dame’s 14th commitment in the 2022 cycle and fourth defensive line pledge.
Rivals lists Hinish with a 5.7 recruit ranking, the highest designation for a three-star prospect. He is ranked as the No. 15 prospect in Pennsylvania and the nation’s No. 33 defensive tackle.
Hinish was named to the 2020 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette WPIAL all-conference class 6A first-team defense and is a 2020 Pennsylvania coaches class 6A second-team defensive tackle. MaxPreps also lists Hinish on its 2020 all-state second team defense.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review lists Hinish as Western Pennsylvania’s No. 4 overall recruit in the 2022 class.
Hinish comes from quite the athletic family. His father, Kurt Sr., played football and his older sister, Kadin, ran track for Division II Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania. His oldest brother, Cory Nolton, was a tight end for Robert Morris of the Football Championship Subdivision.
His uncle, Christian Hinish, played a couple seasons at Georgia Tech, and cousin, Jacob Hinish, played for Yale.
Hinish will study science preprofessional studies with an emphasis on physical therapy.

BARF!

It is funny. My brother dated the mom of the Hinish boys back n the 80s She was a good Catholic mom and was a natural fit for ND.

Here's a clip from an article from the 2/19/2020 Pgh Post-Gazette about Lackawanna that mentions J B Nelson:

"As coaches and players will tell you, junior college football isn’t for everybody. But it’s the ideal opportunity for some players, specifically those who didn’t qualify academically to play NCAA football directly out of high school and hope to earn Division I scholarships after graduating with an associate degree after two years.

“When you get a kid who maybe isn’t going to qualify, but maybe know they’re a good enough football player, it’s a good opportunity for them,” Mt. Lebanon coach Bob Palko said. “It’s good they have a chance to take advantage of a good opportunity.”

That’s the case with Nelson, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive tackle whom Palko said has the talent to play for a Power Five school. Nelson knew he would be a non-qualifier academically, but Lackawanna coaches reached out to him, and a relationship was formed.

Nelson, like many others who play JUCO football, now has a goal in mind.

“I want to get my degree and hopefully transfer to a D1 school,” he said."

Nelson was at West Virginia yesterday(6/05/21), don't know if he was offered.

@TheGLOV is some kind of weird-ass fan/troll who worships at the altar of UNC/Duke and tells PSU commits to play elsewhere. Claims to hate ND and love PSU, but posts glowing quotes about ND from a PA prospect who never had a chance at PSU with MAC-level offers. What on Earth is the motivation here, Glove? Great guy to have in your fox hole. Or, as Borat would say, "not."

Fitz CB for Keenan Nelson to PSU. I believe he’s set to be on campus next weekend.

Massive, massive, massive.

Dude is huge. Hope he's willing to put in the work to kick some ass at PSU.

Anyone know how many years of eligibility Lackawanna OL JB Nelson has?

3 years to play 2?

Looks like he is a big kid that may need some work in the S&C before hitting his peak on a B10 team........
