The Braves are extremely good, young and have a fantastic farm club. They are going to be good and a NL power for a long period of time.
The Mets are now extremely good, are 30 million under the luxury tax and have pretty much unlimited money when they decide it is time under the richest owner in baseball. With Alderson running the show, they won’t spend foolishly, they will be build for sustainability.
Where does that leave the Phillies??? Solid team, clearly behind the top 2 in the division, not much money and not a good farm system. If there was ever a team that is caught in the middle, it is the current Phillies team. No easy answers but signing JT is a good move for experiment and gives them a better shot. Just don’t do anything stupid with a catcher his age and include a no trade clause.
Looks like no DH for the National League, at least for upcoming season.
The Major League Baseball Players Association has turned down the latest MLB proposal for the universal designated hitter and an expanded playoff format, sources confirmed to ESPN.
The news was first reported by MLB Network.
The union's stance has been all along that it did not want to talk about a trade of the universal DH -- which benefits a group of players -- in return for expanded playoffs. Nonetheless, MLB included the two items in its proposal, and that concept has been turned down, per sources.
