The latest Intermat rankings are pushing us closer to 170 once bonus points are added. We have 66 points or more above everyone else.

I did a little spread sheet to show how we could get there and we could do better. Love to read what others think.

Brooks with only 2 bonus while Star has 6? I'd think 4.5-6 for each. I think your placements are pretty reasonable, even conservative, as ridiculous as that seems with 3 Champs and 10 AAs. I don't really see Truax or Nagao getting more bonus than AB, but I also don't see us finishing much lower than your predictions.

Yeah, with the new bonus rules, I think bonus points will be flowing like water in the early rounds.

I believe the key to breaking the record is pins. You get 2x bonus points for a fall vs a TF so we need our guys to work more for the falls in the early rounds if the record is gonna be broken.

For clarification: bonus points are: MD = 1.0, TF = 1.5, F = 2.0

The biggest key to breaking the record is placement points. Obviously we want both, but placement is mathematically more valuable.

that's false. you get 1 bonus point for a major, 1.5 for a tech fall, and 2 for a pin.

Watching the PIAA matches thread… arm bars aren’t what they used to be either
I apologize to all for underestimating just how good PSU wrestling is. We should break 180 with room to spare. New spreadsheets are still conservative IMHO.

I will take any and all action on this.

Madden is correct. OP is NOT conservative.
  • Nagao and Kasak are very aggressive placings, odds are they each are going to be in a dogfight in a blood-round match.
  • Davis at 3 is a total crapshoot with the way 125 has been. He could be 1, he could be R16, he could be anywhere in between.
  • Bernie will likely be in a blood-round match as well, although I think he is probably a solid favorite in that matchup.
  • The others are pretty good, you may complain about Levi at 2, but Beau could be anywhere from 1 to 5. MM at 3 is fair. Carter, Brooks, and Kerk are about as locks as you can get but there is some doubt about Carter's injury (not that I have any).
Nationals is funny. There's a whole lot of good wrestlers out there that we don't see all the time. I think the projections are probably high and would be a great tournament for us, but then again, PSU usually performs pretty great at this tournament.

If only Spencer would've went to Penn State his family and him would be treated like royalty
We have two guys going for 4 titles this year and I would be willing to bet that most Penn State fans have no idea who Brooks' or Staroccis' parents are, John Brooks may be the exception, but they are definitely NOT in the spot light.

yep. Trying to think back... PSU parents seemed to be in the spotlight based on TV while their kids were wrestling in the finals... Damn, Casey in the spotlight :) - sign of things to come

There is absolutely no self-promotion coming from our parents that I'm aware of, unless I'm misunderstanding your reply?

180 with room to spare is conservative? So what’s your radical take?
Given the two true frosh, Carter’s injury, and average expectations for Nagao and Bernie, I’m in the 150’s for another team title. Guessing Levi and Kerk are two first-timers.

We have two guys going for 4 titles this year and I would be willing to bet that most Penn State fans have no idea who Brooks' or Staroccis' parents are, John Brooks may be the exception, but they are definitely NOT in the spot light.
At the Big Tens my buddy asked these guys if we could use a chair from their table and they invited us to sit down. One guy was Beau Bartlett's dad and we talked for about two hours. He went into the recruiting stuff, goings on at PSU and the program and was really engaging. Him and his friend were in the Marines together and told us some old war stories.

I never would have known who he was if he didn't u=introduce himself. I was sitting right behind Nagao's family and two rows behind Messenbrink's folks. Beau's dad were in the same row as Mitch's parents. They were all nice people and pretty low key, of course they did cheer for the guys but otherwise they were just parents watching their kids.

I think 31.5 bonus points is still low. We scored 20.5 at BIGS, with 6 of our hammers missing the first round.

Beau, Levi., Mitch, Carter, Brooks, and Kerk wrestled a total of 15 matches; they will double that at the NCAAs. The opening round should be a blood bath for those unlucky enough to be on our side of the bracket.

Penn St. scored 11 bonus pts last year at NCAA's.
I know even less about wrestling than I thought . Is this a typo ? They had atleast 5 pins that I recall

For what it’s worth I read somewhere their highest ever was 32.5 or was it 31.5 .

I’m again in the minority . I would not be surprised at all if they break 30 .

I’d be curious if you had to put an over under on team points and bonus points for Penn state what’s the line. Asking for a friend 🙂
