Penn State has landed three verbal commitments in the updated Rivals250 rankings for the class of 2025.

Franklin and his key staff seem to be ahead of the curve in identifying talented players, and it's a positive to me that PSU is getting a good many of their early priority targets. But to compete and win against the big boys it would seem that he needs half or more of his class to be in the final top 250 players. Evaluations are still pretty subject to change for many of the players at this point though....

I haven't seen much on the DL so far, although Barnes seems like he's attracting some very good players. There will be some DL roster spots to fill as there are a good many DLinemen in their last year this year. Good that last year's DL class was deep.

But the WR"s that are "crystal balled" to PSU along with the first WR commit seem like solid 4 star players. And it seems like from the way the class is going that the staff may be going for 4 or 5 WR's total and involved with a couple high 4 star WR's whose commitments are likely further in the future.

So where are the lines drawn? Are top 100 players considered 5 stars, top 250 4 stars?
Do the coincide or are there variations in the number of 5 stars year to year based on true athletic ability?

From my experience there are varrying numbers of 5 star players year to year. And early in the cycle, like today for 2025, some services do not give out that many 5 star rating and then add to those as players go to camps (this summer for 2025 class) and perform on the field as Seniors. Like what happened to the 2024 TE Reynolds.

And it seems that there are less than 50 5-star players in the end. In the 30's....?

On3 updated their numbers too. Lyrick samuel in the top 300. Tàtsch at 52 overall. Te target from s. Lehigh in the top 300.

Zoellers up to #17 overall.

Usually the final 5* count is based on the 1st round of the NFL draft and sits at 32.

Early in the process, they won't hand out all 32. Rivals has 18 today. On3 has 20. 247 has 6.

So to be a five star high school player they assume you will eventually be a first rd pick? That’s quite the projection for kids still high school juniors,🤷🏿‍♂️
