Over the last five plus years we've had to endure the mantra of the out of control football culture at Penn State created by one Joe Paterno. This despite the program's well deserved reputation of playing by the rules and emphasis on academics. Further, during his tenure the profile of the University both athletically and academically was raised substantially. And this was due in no small part to Joe's efforts. The narrative, crafted by Corbett, Rodney, the BOT and its hired gun, Louie Freeh, was handed to the media on a silver platter, which will sustain it in perpetuity.

With the football program in seemingly great shape thanks to the admirable job of James Franklin (kudos to him), but with the University's academic reputation plummeting to modern day lows, who really should be held responsible for perpetuating the perception of Penn State as a football factory? What do you think, Ira, Rodney, John, Karen, Barron, Tommy? Hint for ya. It ain't Joe Paterno or James Franklin. Better go get yourselves a good mirror.
