The Bronze Age

Well they need to do something with all those torn down civil war statues

It used to be public acclaim was directed toward people who were able to make society better though advances in science, medicine, social issues, etc. Now we admire and build statues for people who were good at playing a game. Wahoo!! If they're publicly funded it's even more stupid. However, I can understand why sports franchises erect statues for great players from the past. It's all about marketing and keeping fans loyal even if the loyalty is for someone who is no longer there.
