I hate to admit that so much of the success we've had with this virus is coming from these two states, but they are knocking it out of the park (relatively).

Florida and Texas doing more than any other states to bring down the case fatality rate (CFR). Imagine how high the CFR would be without them?

    Great. Texas and Florida not
Even 1/10 of deaths of New York and nj. Of course people will get it. Just don’t go to New York or they will kill you.

Now there killing minorities in the streets. 41 died this weekend. Those black lives didn’t matter. Do they count as covid?

There is a 2 - 4 week lag between diagnosis and death. Texas, Florida and other spiking states most probably won’t see fatality spikes begin until the end of July.

Let me slow this down for you, the U.S. is testing significantly more people than any other country. That means, the three countries that are currently 2nd, 3rd, 4th and the rest of the world.

It would be hard to argue otherwise. But, for the media to keep pushing the cases are sky rocketing button without giving any context is just piss poor.

Lots of countries don't need to do as much testing as they don't have many people getting sick.

When you have thousands of people a day with symptoms getting tested it tends to drive up the number tests you are performing.

Our national COVID response was poor early because we didn't protect our high-risk even though the data defining them was there (from the Italy outbreak). Our COVID response now is poor because so many states have so much healthcare capacity (meaning they could be more open).

The correct response was/is to 1) extremely protect our high-risk group; and 2) let everyone else get sick if they want to. We have literally done the opposite of that.

The two most important things we should have been doing all along - extremely protecting our high-risk group, and

You don't need to have symptoms to get tested now like you did in March.

Most evidence is showing your PCR test can stay “positive” for weeks after convalescing from Covid. Dead viral particles hang out in the nasopharynx for weeks, triggering a positive test. It doesn’t mean you are contagious. So potentially thousands of people who were sick in May and early June, but want to return to work, or see grandma, or have an elective procedure, or travel to many destinations which are requiring the test, or see their newborn, or want to hook up with their Tinder date, are now being tested and showing persistent positivity, and these numbers are included in daily totals. One of my nurses has had 3 tests in 3 weeks and all positive, she was sick in late May. She can’t return to work yet, but is asymptomatic now.

Im not saying FL and TX are not surging in their own right, they are. But these values are not the same, analytically, as they were even a month ago.

Hospitalizations is a far better barometer now. They have ticked up in these states, but not like they did in NY/NJ/CT in March.

    Details matter.

Stupid is not limited to a single political party. Donald Trump is in the running for the worst, most destructive, most incompetent President of all time. His COVID policy is unforgivable. For many reasons, I question how any honest, intelligent person can support him.

I believe that the situation in Texas and Florida today is not quite the same as NY/NJ in March/April. As a public health official you can’t make that assumption because if you’re wrong your career is over. We can’t rely on wishful thinking.

So then the positivity rate should be going down. But in some of these states is skyrocketing.

If you do have symptoms then you are likely to get tested. So what would result in more tests? 9,000 people a day with symptoms or 1,000 people a day with symptoms?

Howard Zucker and his DOH team, along w Cuomo, made the decision to send Covid patients back to nursing homes in NYS. He still has his job. You think anyone is really accountable in liberal la la land?

Early on Cuomo made bad decisions. After a bad start I think he has done a reasonable job.

And killed 6800. Way more than Texas with 5 times the population. Is this a 9th place trophy for her? Congrats.

Different situation in Texas thus far. Their death rate will creep up but nowhere near the rate of NY.
