I think Franklin has completely deflated support of the fan base, you just can’t trust this guy to win a big game. On national college football shows yesterday, Franklin was the laughing stock - same old Penn State.

I’m worried to ever become Nebraska or any of these other schools that fall in the trap of firing coaches, but it really does feel like it’s time to part ways with James. I’m not confident in the next guy but I’m just at a point that we should try. Every year this happens.

Yurcich will probably take the fall for this rather than Franklin but it’s becoming painfully obvious that Franklin has something in mind for his offenses and it never pans out. OL never holds up, WRs can’t get separation, and lack of QB development. Playcalling was absolutely atrocious.

Defense is elite and the best in the country. McCord was scared at times. The hold call on the scoop and score should be picked up - iffy call to begin with and the QB was never even able to get the ball off. And the goal line stand? Phenomenal. Do whatever it takes to keep Manny, but I have a feeling he’s jumping ship because the offense isn’t holding up the bargain.

What else can be said about Marvin Harrison? Best WR I’ve ever seen at the college level. And their coaching finds creative ways to get him the ball. Another major difference in comparison to PSU’s coaching.

As I said yesterday, Franklin is Penn State's Kirk Ferentz. He's going nowhere. The buyout on his contract is still huge and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

https://theathletic.com/4185007/202...e-agree-to-new-10-year-contract-through-2031/

The only way Penn State gets to Alabama/Georgia/Ohio State/Michigan territory is to spend the money to find a Manny Diaz for the offense, a guy who should be a HC but isn't. Then tell Franklin to stay out of it in big games - just stand around and look cerebral. Probably cheaper than buying out his contract and taking a flyer on some other coach. Diaz wants to be a HC but his record at Miami doesn't support it. He has done some great things for other teams as a DC; that's really where he belongs, and unlike Franklin, he's worth overpaying for that.

The thing is, I think Penn State's admin is insanely happy with what they have in Franklin, "very good but not elite."

The Nebraska situation is exactly what keeps PSU from getting to great. We won't hire to achieve it. Nebraska switched conferences in middle of downturn and has zero recruiting territory within 8 hour driving radius. PSU has Philly, Pittsburgh, Ohio, MD/DC/VA, NJ all within 2-3 hours. It is not the same situation. With our money/fanbase/facilities/alumni support, any decent coach can keep us at 9 wins. That is what we will get with CJF, the bronze thophy. I guess PSU is ok with it. 10w and NYD bowl..while we watch CFP and dream of some day.

IMHO the school made a mistake joining the big two little 8. Perhaps that will change with expansion, but for the last 3+ decades this, Conference has spent over backwards to make sure that the Ohio State Michigan game is the premier game in college football. We all see it, kids, see it, recruits see it. In today’s world where you recruit nationally why would you want to come to play for a team that isn’t going to be able to have the depth to win a national championship? No you go to teams like Georgia, Florida State, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and USC. Those are the schools that continuously and consistently get the five star players. Then on top of that we have the Sandusky situation.

The program has had too much headwind in the last 30 to 40 years. There has just been too much to overcome. I give Franklin a lot of credit for coming close, but we just aren’t there yet.

Can we please stop blaming the conference and refs for our failures. The officiating was absolutely fine yesterday. We got outplayed in a major way.

Big10 has been a disaster for PSU football. Way back in 1994, it was clear Conference had it in for us.

But many here refuse to believe.

So it’s wait until next year again!

First, I didn’t blame the refs but second there is no way to justify creating crazy divisions with crazy schedules so that the Conference can preserve that single precious football game that pits Ohio State against Michigan. There is simply no question that this conference is all about Ohio State and Michigan for football, if you don’t agree with that, we have nothing more to talk about because it’s as plain as the nose on your face

The justification is people flipped out over the first attempt that was setting up Michigan and Ohio State to play twice so they went with geography.

Ohio State and Michigan win. That's why the conference is about them. Until we can beat them that won't change. That's on us. We all thought when we joined the conference we'd dominate. Decades later we still haven't.

I'm tired of excuses. Our program needs to improve. We're Georgia under Richt and that's not good enough.

When a league markets one game as THE GAME.......there is an agenda.........

Big 10 takes care of their show horses......we get the 50/50 calls against NW and tOSU gets the calls against us.....Remeber we are lucky to be playing.......

It is "the game" until others beat them
You all have to stop. The BOT basically begged to be sanctioned. And the officiating was absolutely fine yesterday. Stop playing victim.

Spotted OSU their first TD with an egregious personal foul call. But agreed the offense didn’t do nearly enough to win

They didn't. The hold on King was correct as was the personal foul. That's a clear penalty and you're claiming it was egregious. We have stop the nonsense.

That penalty was also on first and goal so how exactly did they spot them the TD? It gave them all of 2 yards and 1 extra down--they scored on the next play.

I didn’t think it was an egregious personal foul call just a chicken you know what one.

Nope. That is not totally ‘on us.’ When the conference is telling you, by scheduling and by division (to the detriment of everyone else) to hold Ohio State and Michigan in higher honor there is no way to deny that. Now throw in a Sandusky scandal just for fun.

Frankly, I am more surprised we are even challenging as it is more likely. We should’ve been relegated to being a Nebraska or Michigan state.

In the end, if you are a five star recruit and have an offer from Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. And you were watching the Conference has pandered to Ohio State in Michigan, why in the world would you go to Penn State?

The Sandusky scandal was on our administration not anyone else. They basically begged for us to be sanctioned by everyone. See what we signed

I would go to whatever coaching staff was the best--right now we're third.

Also, Ohio State and Michigan are two games a year. Beat them. And we still should be beating everyone else easily which, thankfully, we're finally doing.

Again, I'm done with the excuses. We lost yesterday because they were better coached and outplayed us. No other reason.

Franklin is like Michael Scott in the season 1 healthcare episode when he tells the group there will be a big surprise at the end of the day and it turns out there is no surprise and he stares straight ahead like a deer in the headlights while people angrily give up waiting and start leaving for the . Now just substitute Franklin and the “becoming elite “ talk

I agree with this. “Conferences” are a socialist tool with a socialist outcome. It’s designed to enrich the “status quo” placeholders. Everyone else is “rewarded” relatively for partaking. The best thing that could happen to college sports in general is the dissolution of conferences and a return to independence. A complete brand of independent football that is representative of its university and community is all that is needed. Conferences are a gimmick tool to enrich the few at the expense of the many. IMO

Conferences are like emissions control in the auto industry. Regulate everyone and everything so the coffers of the few are enriched. The whole time everyone is trying to figure out what’s wrong with their car so they turn to government (conference) subsidy to remain afloat. Over time you eventually believe nothing can exist without this approach. It’s a huge ploy by the few that has been going on for all eternity. You just have to be wise enough to spot it and understand it.

It was holding, but directly in front of the ref who was nearest McCord, a PSU DL was getting mugged. I was screaming at the TV and after the score and the yellow penalty flag graphic came up I was like no problem, we will decline the holding call and take the lead.

They consistently let offensive holding go on both sides yesterday and that's what I want. Consistency. Even if called the TD comes back because King got handsy for no reason. He had help to the inside.
