Sparty dumpster fires continues to get worse

If you people are going to talk about this, perhaps you should learn the actual Nassar case. Just a thought.

I don't think it's appropriate to characterize the people in this forum who discuss this topic as being generally uninformed. Many of us have been following this for a long time and reading everything we can find. And I think we have a special perspective on this issue that allows many of us to understand it with more depth and nuance than the average American.

So I think this comment and your snarky attitude are both really off base.

I think I have been an unbiased third party with a pretty good reputation on this forum for some time now and a very good perspective of the similarities and differences in both cases. You didn't like it when people used these errant types of media articles to bash at PSU , so no one should be using them to do the same to MSU.

Can you advise exactly what MSU is doing that makes you believe "they are fighting back against the BS." I really have no idea because I haven't been following the scandal that closely. However, I do know that MSU set aside $500 Million for settlement with the victims and they have forced the resignation of people who were in any way connected to the scandal, including the president and athletic director.

From my knowledge of what MSU has done in response to the scandal (which is admittedly limited to what I stated above), they appear to be in full retreat, admitting fault and eliminating anyone with oversight responsibilities during the time that the monster roamed the campus. Sound familiar?
Assuming you read the article, an interim MSU President is not being a Barron, who was stifled by your OGBOT who had their own motives for creating scapegoats from day 1.and is speaking out about the tactics of John C Manly and Rachael Denhollander, who, by the way, never made any report to anyone at MSU or attempted any police report until 2016 when she read about the Child porn charges in the newspaper. She then issued a bizarre "open letter" to Lou Anna K Simon for not knowing anything at all about her NON-EXISTENT report of abuse by Nassar. No one has forced any resignations of anyone "connected to the scandal" at Michigan Health and Human Services, the Michigan Medical Board, and several police departments who did indeed receive reports about Nassar and failed to identify him as an offender and put him in the system so he wouldn't be hired by MSU, or USAG, or made referrals by Twistars gym, or made the Olympic doctor. LAK Simon only was "forced to resign" because two BOT members, way after the fact, Joel Ferguson made dumb comments in the newspapers when asked about NCAA by some Detroit "sports guys" , and then Mitch Lyons who was under indictment for assault and battery of a referee at his daughter's basketball game so was trying to distract from his situation. This is the only reason LAK Simon "resigned". Those two men were in self-preservation mode. The good news is, Meridian Township Police Department is doing the right thing about their error. They invited survivor Brianne to join them and help them do better on their SA report intake and processing than they did on hers. They also took the offer from Jim Clemente and Francey Hakes for advice on Red Flag training, facilitated by yours truly and David Harns, a really conscientious MSU sports journalist who is trying his darndest to remain unbiased on all fronts and only report what is accurate, also pointing out what is inaccurate, such as the nasty ESPN behavior. Yes, there were "settlements", but just like PSU , those were basically forced by shysters like Shubin who had his clients change their stories to fit PSU's criteria, and Manly , who has had these women on parade in the media from Day 1, shouting "MSU coverup" , and in my estimation, reabusing all of them to line his pockets. He will then go again to another place (he's from California) and do it again and again wherever he can get away with it, never even attempting to help fix the problem that cause the Nassars of the world to go undetected. Those MSU settlements no doubt contain the same language of non-guilt that PSU had in their own.

Enough already! IMHO Joe is in heaven and does not need our support. Let's leave judgement to a higher power. Nothing written here will change anyone's mind.

I think so. Joint effort among PSU, Minnesota and the two governors.

That 1993 Minnesota @ PSU game was the very first PSU game I went to - a couple weeks after I started my undergrad career at Penn State. I grew up in B1G country (Detroit) and B1G football was one of my favorite things growing up. Then I've been able to see up close the entire PSU B1G experience.

Most of what I know about the PSU expansion vote was through experience (it definitely wasn't very well received in Michigan) and then outside research. The PSU/B1G marriage is not a perfect marriage, as most marriages aren't But I do think both PSU and the B1G have been better for it.
Penn State has not been the better for it on the field of play. That's not why Penn State joined anyway, though, and we all know why. $

The MSU claimants should have fired their lawyers for convincing them to take that $500 million settlement. They got pennies compared to what PSU was throwing around for a lot less culpability.

What PSU brings besides market share, is academic and athletic excellence. I was born into Gopher fandom, but i've always admired PSU. I have a paper back book about PSU football and training tucked away in a storage box somewhere that goes back to high school. Yes it has some years on it. Growing up, Lydell Mitchell was one of my favorite running backs. He was ahead of his time. He was an excellent receiver out of the backfield.

Regarding Pennsylvania in general, while located in the east, it seems like the people from the state are much like people from the greater midwest. I am guessing it is due to many residents having ancestors from the same regions.

The Gopher ties to the state are Sandy Stephens, and Judge Dickson. They were both part of the last National Championship squad.

Anyway, the beauty of the BigTen conference, is tradition. It is great to see so many schools with long and rich traditions.

Cheers!

You pick up Clairton's Judge Dickson, but overlook Stephen's high school teammate, Bill Munsey (Chuck Muncie's older brother and Ernie Davis's cousin)). And from the same HS, there later came All-Big Ten TE Ray Parson.

MSU just fired Engler as interim president. Edit, not fired. The statement below was from a board member suggesting he be fired, but not actually being fired by the board (yet).

I don't think he's resigned or been fired ........... yet.

It does seem inevitable. Various MSU BoT members (sans Joel Ferguson, who is a total dirt-bag) are tripping over themselves in their haste to make a statement.

A lot of people know nothing about michigan state. michigan state has never had the overall public awareness or brand of a Penn State.

Kind of a painful discussion, because both programs have had proud moments in their histories. Obviously PSU has higher brand recognition.

Yes I missed one. I "knew"(knew of) Judge Dickson, and his son. I have family ties to Sandy Stephens. Keep in mind, they were Gopher greats before I was born.

BTW I loved Lydell Mitchell, but also had a man crush on Chuck Muncie growing up. Two innovators!

MSU just fired Engler as interim president.

perhaps that will happen, but the statement by the trustee that you posted does not indicate that, and no news reports show him as being fired. In fact, multiple articles posted in the past 2 hours quote Engler as saying he's focused on the future, and looking forward to next week's trustee meeting.

yep, apologies...the note was attached to a tweet saying that Engler was being fired. this is not (yet) the case. Just someone on the MSU board saying that they were in favor of Engler being let go.

Wasn't Tom Ridge floated at an .........interim President at PSU. Yeah, bring in an ex-politician to be a ..........fixer since they know all the dirty tricks to diffuse any situation. I guess the only thing worse would be to bring in a Geography Professor to negotiate sexual abuse settlements and ask for reimbursement from PMA later.

MANY people will be "looking forward to next week's trustee meeting." Bring the popcorn.

I hope Engler gets tossed out on his head. We'll see if a majority of MSU Board Members have the balls to do it. Screw Engler.

Thank you, Tom. Most of the other trustees and several others affiliated with MSU are telling Mosallam he's grandstanding and headline seeking and needs to stand down. Nothing like Jack Stripling the TMZ artist for the Chronicle of Lower ED whipping up a frenzied mob again like he did about Albert Lord just because Jack is either an idiot and can't read or interpret documents, or likes to cause problems for his own clicks and personal attention. Did you people or did you not express dissatisfaction with his antics regarding the Spanier trial? This gleeful vengeful attytood is not very becoming of some of y'all. Do you want the problems in Michigan fixed at the state and local agency level so no more kids/youth/women are harmed, or are you just hypocrites? I guess that's something you each have to decide for yourselves.

Short of Sandusky, Al Lord may have been the most morally despicable Penn Stater over the last 7 years. Geez.
