PSU 7th in final AP

A far more rational ranking than the AP...

PSU #7 in coaches poll as well
TCU to #4 - OSU and Mich ahead of them (tough call there)
Utes at #10
No Tulane in top 10 - have them at #17
Coaches snub Pitt - not in top 25
Gamecocks still outrank the Irish
Troy at #24

Well #4 Ohio St lost their last 2 games of the year. Posters got on PSU for losing to 2 playoff teams but Ohio St also did now. Both PSU and Ohio St finished 1-2 against top 10 teams this year.
I cannot imagine being an OSU fan knowing that you make that relatively easy field goal to beat Georgia and then probably beat up TCU in the championship game

They blew it. Every game is a new day. So they’re a few points under Georgia but would walk over TCU who beat Michigan who beat OSU? You just don’t know how it’ll play out.
No saw OSU fans chuckling over this while I’m thinking they had their shot and blew it.

TCU was not mentally ready for the spotlight of that game. I think several teams in the top 10 could’ve beaten them last night.

I don’t disagree , but dropping them is how it works now. Could beat them is speculation , who won and lost isn’t .

True, but oh-high-lost to the clear #1 team because they missed a FG at the end of the game. whereas the team that the #1 team blew out like they shouldn't have been in the playoff at all is ranked ahead of oh-high-ya (and the team that beat oh-high-ya in the B10 championship game) in the AP poll. That doesn't seem logical.

An even more illogical poll is the "CBS Sports Rankings" that has Utah ahead of PSU even though PSU beat them handily in a game that was essentially a Utah home game, with Utah having 4 losses and PSU only the 2 losses to 2 of the playoff teams that each lost by the thinest of margins in the 4 team playoff.

I wouldn't give the cbssports poll a click. That's completely irrelevant

Yes I agree with you. But why would cbssports put out such an off the wall poll that only further degrades any credibility they might have had?
Poll is dated Jan. 10, 2023.

They would do better to just logically correct the injustices that are normally present in the AP and/or coaches polls, or not even publish anything at all.

It’s an old poll

After 20-21, PSU being ranked at 7 is a nice accomplishment. my opinion: coaching staff really improved even more so than the players. We had 3 bad quarters: 3rd and 4th vs UM, 4th vs OSU. An impressive turn around in 1 season. Kudos to coaches and players - top 10 is where Penn State belongs!

Article was released today, says it is the final poll, and opens by saying ‘after Georgia wins’ so must be the last/post title game poll.
If you’re talking about the coaches poll or the “cbs poll”, it obviously not correct...you really think that Utah moved up from 12th to 7th after the loss, while we stayed at 8th? LSU dropped 5 spots after blasting Purdue? Washington State moved up 6 spots after getting blown out by Fresno St? The Coaches and CBS polls are obviously old.

That's the last coaches poll of the season after the conference championship games. It has not been updated for after the bowls/CFP.

I may be mistaken but I thought that FG attempt was in the 50 yard range.
The kick was from 50. Noah Ruggles has no misses from 40-49 in 2 years (11-11). Of course none of those kicks were to go to the National Championship game. His longest this year was 48, but he was 0-2 at 50. Guess the extra couple of yards is too much for him. Even Jake Pinegar was 2-2 at 50 yards this year. You'd think with all their recruiting success the Buckeyes could have had a long field goal specialist.

Not an OSU fan but if Marvin Harrison doesn't get knocked out of that game, the OSU wins by 2 tds. They should give the DB who knocked him out kudos for saving their season.

"A record 5 teams went from preseason unranked to the final top 10. A record 15 teams went from preseason unranked to the final Top 25."

Moral of this story....Pre season polls suck or at least the people who vote on them do. Maybe we should be evaluating the football knowledge of those who vote for polls. A guy who likes, watches and writes about football doesn't mean they know about how it actually works. It's proven over and over again but let's put Condeleeza Rice on the CFP committee instead of Bill Parcells.....Makes sense. We'd be better off with a dozen no name scouts or unemployed former coaches on the committee than a vanity committee like they have.

It's why you play the season. Realistically A&M should have never been as bad as they were. ND shouldn't have lost to Marshall. But you can only make rankings on expectations and consider the coach's history.

5-8 sense, 13 is silly lol. notice how one guy says 13, most say 7, and to me 7 makes the most sense. Alabama and Tennessee at 5,6 is hard to argue with but you can make a case for PSU.

About right. We beat the current rendition of Tennessee…..with their starting QB not so sure. Methinks we would also beat TCU. Down at 13 is just crazy…….has to be something personal. Franklin or somebody must have dissed a stupid question he asked .

Sounds like Dave Jones the hole blower.
