OT: USA COVID-19 Vaccination Updates

If I understand correctly, Moderna is three times the concentration of Pfizer. That is one of the reason scientists think based on the evidence to date the Moderna vaccine is doing better than the Pfizer vaccine in prevent illness. That and being 4 weeks vs 3 weeks between shots as it now looks the longer between the shots the better. So the higher concentration could also be what it appears MOderna shot appears to have more of the 24-48 hours of feeling bad after the shot more often.

Moderna adult dose is 0.5 ml (0.25 ml for booster) compared to Pfizer's at 0.3 ml (same for booster)

Had my booster for Moderna Monday evening. Felt like crap starting mid day Tuesday until this morning. Feeling a little bit better. Comparable to my second dose in April

Had my Moderna booster 2 Sundays ago. I had a low grade fever which I didn't have for the first 2, and also had that flu feeling which took 48 hours to go away compared to 24 hours for the 2nd shot. So a little worse than the second shot but better than some hangovers thru the years.

Unfortunately my friends, I think we are starting to see another uptick in cases coming. Starting to see some states starting to creep back up. Anecdotally starting to hear a lot of 'famous' people coming down with Covid which gives a general sense that the virus is out there in circulation more heavily.

I was in Vegas last week and was struck by how many people were wearing masks in the casinos. I am in San Diego today and had dinner the last two nights in the Gaslight Area. I would say maybe, one in twenty is wearing a mask. In CA, I was shocked.

Doesnt vegas casinos require masks as thats why Ive held out going this year? If youre still in San Diego and like a good pint of Guinness stop at the Field of 5th Ave.

Came down with breakthrough case . Approx 25 people at surprise ! Bday party. Everyone except one very random hillbilly ( have no idea how he got there) was vaxed. Looks like 17 got covid. That was a serious contagion. On a note, had Moderna last March . Had cough, low grade fever.......what is pesky and hanging around is fatigue and low 90% O2 levels. Rats

To be honest, based on most anyalsys you aren't really vaccinated any more after 6 months. Sounds like you're making it through it. I know it would be hard to find out but would be very interesting to see who all was vaccinated when...which vaccine...how sick were they...did the hillbilly catch it?

Thank you Jerry ! Day to day and really not that big of a deal . Getting older as much to do with resting BPM and O2 ;)

Again that said day to day . Felt a lot better today and at 95 % o2. I live an endurance athlete lifestyle when I am not inundated by work. My friend and running partner a notch above fitness level feeling it also. We just don't want it to cut a percentage of our base fitness. I have always said about covid if someone tells me they KNOW something they can kiss my ass. Lots of unknowns as far as I am concerned. Over reactions ....sure . But a walk in the park for everyone ? Nope not that either . I think the credo I was raised with is everything in moderation. Again thanks and stay safe to all.

Looking at new hospital admissions and they really are not changing much day to day, that has always been the first sign of a surge coming. We have been consistently at 10% decrease in hospital admissions for a couple of months now and this week basically held steady at 5100 all week.

I've been told by people who would know that the same thing is happening here. The hospital is fillled but not with Covid patients...75% with other conditions.

if the implication that it is due to vaccination that is pathetic.

the reason that ER's would be full is that basically it is nearly impossible to get a doctor's appt. now-a-days for whatever reason. So the default now for most is to goto the ER for about anything. Where pre Covid you would goto Urgent Care or goto a primary care physician or specialist. But to see a specialist anymore is 3+ months out.

I'm not talking about the ER locally. I'm talking about all hospital beds. People are being admitted for something and its not covid. There are a few studies out there that suggest(I'm not saying they are right) that the vaccines are causing changes in the immune system, which could be a reason in some other viruses are hard to fight.

How many doctors wont even see patients but send them off to the ER? The system is broken in part because it is being overwhelmed for other reasons outside of Covid.

Next time read the article before you make your own implications.
You've really lost it now. I read the article, did you? The source is a far right wing rag that is owned by a Bulgarian company. Did you know that?

Question; Did you bother to read any of these articles before posting? You are quicly losing credibility so at least read the articles and make intelligent comments if you are going to link the articles.

you didn't read my post. OK. Separate thoughts: first, that there are a lot of people being admitted to hospitals that are non-COVID and that is creating a concern.

Second thought is that several new medicines are in the pipeline. I made no recommendations and shared no opinions. So....your post is full of crap.

Of course their are a lot of people being admitted to hospitals. They all stayed away from hospitals for so long that they hadn't been diagnosed early and are now in trouble. You probably knew this but chose a different direction.

As for medicines in the pipline: There's nothing drug companies like better than a good treatment...much better than a cure.

Plenty more articles out there siting the same. Make a little effort. It's not my job to spoon feed you.
Are they all written through companies that are headquartered in the most corrupt* country in the European Union?

There's a new study out documenting the dramatic drop in vaccine effectiveness after six months. See link below.

Three weeks ago a guy in my church group was diagnosed with the virus. In his late 60s, somewhat overweight, with other comorbidities...checks a lot of high-risk boxes. He was vaccinated in March.

He was given a transfusion of monoclonal antibodies which worked almost miraculously. 24 hours afterward, most of his symptoms had resolved though of course he did the quarantine thing anyway.

He was told that last month a local hospital was overrun with Covid admissions...and fully 40% of the cases were people who'd been vaccinated. Strictly 2nd-hand information but noteworthy.

Glad to see the reporting is finally catching up to whats been going on in the UK for the last 2 plus months. Delta which wasn't around for the first half of the year is why it appeared the vaccines were working.

I was at a wedding this weekend in Philadelphia (which has a mandatory indoor mask mandate). Wedding was a remarriage for both of them as they are both in their late 60's so a lot of older people at the wedding. I was shocked to see literally not one person that came to the wedding wore a mask inside. All the workers had to wear masks, but no guests did. And this is not a hard right wing leaning crowd, most of that side of the family is pretty liberal in their views. Just cemented home to me that people are just tired of Covid at this point and want to get back to normal and accept the risk of Covid now in their lives like any other general disease out there.

Only people wanting to keep Covid alive is the politicians and beuarocrats (CDC, FDA, Fauci, etc...) at this point.

I was in Columbus this past weekend for my nephew's hockey tournament. Columbus' mayor imposed a mask mandate in early September, which still is in effect. Not one of the rinks in which our team played enforced this, and neither did our hotel nor and any eating establishment in which we visited except for a Tim Hortons a mile down the road from Ohio Stadium. I certainly didn't complain about this, as I haven't had to wear a mask to shop or go into a restaurant here in Western PA since this past May.

Agreed. Another factor playing into this are the mainstream and social media. They fanned hysteria in 2020 but, faced with Covid statistics that in recent months have been in some ways as bad as last year's, have curiously not propagandized for the same drastic responses. On the contrary, the restaurants are open, the stadiums are full, the schools are in session, and sanity has returned.

Of course, there's one big difference between last year and this year...and it has nothing to do with the virus.

i am confused about what you are saying? The mainstream media and admin did massively 'fear porn' the delta variant from mid July through mid September before the numbers starting coming back down. It is why mask mandates when back in place in many locations and in most places have not been lifted even though the numbers have come back down.

And I would say the reason that the numbers aren't a whole lot different from a year ago is because of the vaccine as you can argue about the level of effectiveness of it, but things are pretty much open across the board and the numbers are mainly somewhat better than they were a year ago when everything was still shut down. there is no doubt if everything go shut back down akin to where it was last year at this time the covid numbers would be very low. so basically open and vaccine is equal to large shutdowns and no vaccine.

Yes, for sure there was some fear porn this year but not nearly (in my view) at the level of the height of last year's hysteria. Also, the two versions served entirely different ends: last year to shut down the economy, throw people out of work by the millions, create a sense of social panic for reasons having nothing to do with science or medicine; this year to demonize and scapegoat the unvaccinated.

Also, vaccines or no, it's not possible to know whether a massive shutdown like last year would have had a major impact on this year's numbers. But even if it would, the fact that the "experts," the government, and the media went in a different direction, deciding that destruction of the country in response to this virus was not such a good idea after all, only underscores my point: last year's hysteria and the insane measures it produced were never rooted in genuine science or medicine.

By virtue of age, I'm in a higher-risk category and therefore chose to get vaccinated, even to include the booster. But I don't buy the notion that vaccines are the panacea they've been billed to be. Despite tens of millions of people having been vaccinated, the infection numbers have remained high. And the article I linked to above, not to mention anecdotes of the sort I shared (and we've all heard similar stories), dramatically show the decreasing effectiveness of the shots over a period of months.

A kind of cult has sprung up around the vaccines. Mass mandates. Get the shot (even if you have natural immunity from having already contracted the disease) or lose your job. And now the kids. The whole thing borders on criminal.

LOL, people trying so hard to be victims. You’re not, nor are anti vaxxers. They are allowed to stay unvaccinated.

You should get out more, Jol: People bucking mandates are losing their friggin' jobs for God's sakes.

And if you want to preach about "victims," tell it to the people who ridiculously feel victimized because some other schmucks didn't get a vaccine.

Which is odd because if the vaccines work, the vaccinated people shouldn't care since they're protected. And if they don't work, then why are they demanding that everyone submit?

Seriously, man, there's an entire category of people whose entire ideology revolves around imaginary victimhood. And guess what: they ain't on my side of the equation.

Anti vaxxers aren’t victims. It’s so scary you actually think this way still. Your post earlier acted like there was some crazy special reason stadiums are full again. I’m sure you are convinced of some other BS though. There are legit reasons for exemptions and there is full on fantasy land conspiracy BS. Oddly enough it’s woke to call these freaks out. Not by me anymore, they are idiots.

I suggest you have it backwards: it's the Vaccine Cult that acts the grand victim, as though its members are under dire threat. It is they who seek to impose their fears on everyone else.

Again, if the vaccines work, why would vaccinated people be obsessed with and demonize people who haven't been vaccinated?

If the vaccines don't work, why should unvaccinated people be forced to submit?

And speaking of idiotic, why should those who have natural immunity by virtue of having already contracted the virus be forced to get vaccines?

As I said, I'm the farthest thing from an anti-vaxxer. I got the shots. I got the booster. I think a rational case can be made for people in higher-risk categories. For the rest of the population, it should be a matter of choice.

Meanwhile, when the cult comes for people's children, it shouldn't be surprised if things don't go well.
