OT: NFL rule on fumbling in the endzone and ball goes out

dumbest rule in sports.

So if you do this at 1 it’s still your ball, but if you do it in the end zone the other team gets the ball??
He didn't fumble in the end zone. If he would have fumbled after crossing the goal line it would have been a touchdown.

Offensive player can’t fumble IN the end zone.
It is a TD as soon as the offensive player advances the ball (while in his control) to the goal line.
Fumbling the ball through and out of the end zone has always been a turnover. Not a dumb rule at all. What other result would you want?
It’s simple, really. Hold on to the darn ball.

It is a stupid rule.

The punishment is overtly harsh to the offensive team.

The fumbling team gives up possession and 20 yards.

Any other fumble is a 50/50 deal where you or other team can recover but this one is an automatic change of possession plus 20 yards.

Agree that its a rule that doesnt match for any other fumbles that occur everywhere else on the field. Dont care who they give the ball to but ball should go back to teh place of fumbling since no one actually recovered it. Many HS coaches have been asking to change this rule for year but NFHS will have nothing of it. Guess the NFL will have to lead the way on it.
