OT: Getting rid of old computers

I've had really good luck with two methods - the Hillary method, and this:

I recommend limbering up before hand.
 
As mentioned it’s definitely good practice to wipe or retain the drive.

If it’s a laptop, I’d really encourage you to run BitLocker or FileVault to begin with, as appropriate, to encrypt the contents of the drive. This will protect you in case of loss or theft, as well, and if removed from the computer should be basically useless without your credentials or a backup key.

Self-encrypting drives are also being used more and more where it’s possible to simply overwrite the key in the flash memory on the drive and it’s as good as wiped.
