Loved those movies in Schwab.
Liked Shawshank, not necessarily my top, but up there. There is a line from the movie I often use when speaking with clients and employees, "Hope is a good thing".Shawshank
Yes, class was Theater Arts 70 ??, long time ago, think I got it right. He liked Tom Jones and the Peter Sellers movie, something about the bomb, don't recall the name. So for my written reports I praised both films. As the say "aced" the course. Probably the most interesting course I took during my four years. Saw the classics and learned why they were classics. Citizen Kane, Birth of a Nation, Chaplin, Silent Films, the John Wayne effect.Loved those movies in Schwab.
Same. I wasnt watching for symbolism, I hated the tests. My class was in the forum. Only class where it ever was full other than chem 12Ughhh I took that class as it was supposed to be easy, it was anything but.
I did enjoy the movies though.

I spent my years as a physics grad student at Penn State informally auditing many film courses, catching every film series I could (Bergman, Fellini, Chaplin, and many others) and faithfully attending the foreign and classic films shown in Kern., Schwab, and elsewhere on campus and in town. What an education! What a time!
On the related subject of Not The Greatest Films, does anyone remember the hard-core porn films shown in the physics lecture hall in Osmond Lab back in the day? I think they were shown as a fundraiser by fraternities, but I am not certain of that. My then girlfriend (now my wife) wanted to go see one with some of her girlfriends. I warned her that whatever you do, do not get up and leave in the middle of the film. She asked why and I said, "You'll see why". Sure enough, one of her friends had seen enough and started to leave. The chorus of male hoots and jeers are probably still haunting her friend's nightmares after all these years.
Yeah, there were year-long Fellini and Chaplin festivals my first year, '74-'75.I spent my years as a physics grad student at Penn State informally auditing many film courses, catching every film series I could (Bergman, Fellini, Chaplin, and many others) and faithfully attending the foreign and classic films shown in Kern., Schwab, and elsewhere on campus and in town. Ellis Grove was most likely the instructor. Turns out he had some peccadilloes...I enjoyed this class also. Besides some of those mentioned, we got to see : The Red Balloon, Student made film called "Spring Fantasy".
Dr. Strangelove?the Peter Sellers movie, something about the bomb, don't recall the name.
Yeah, there were year-long Fellini and Chaplin festivals my first year, '74-'75.
I just realized that my first year '74-5 was Bergman and Chaplin. Yeah, good times. We probably saw them together, LionJim. I was there through those golden years: great times. The Kern Graduate Building (affectionately known as The KGB) had some great foreign film series as well.
Casablanca and the African queenTwo of my "Top 5" of all time are Bogart movies: "The Maltese Falcon" and "Casablanca".
