Nice article on Jersey Shore's Dan Muthler being inducted in to Wrestling's Hall of Fame

Dan Muthler was an amazing wrestler.

He was the only state champion from my alma mater (‘81), until the Bulldogs had 2 state champs in ‘80 and unexpectedly won team states. Quite the celebration in our little town.
I'm dating myself but I was at the 71 districts held at the old Wmspt Bardo gym. Dan wrestled Jerry Kimble from my school, S. Wmspt and it was a very close match. If I'm remembering correctly Jerry had Dan on his back for a split second or 2.

So, you wrestled for Rod? Have we met? I'm married to Crystal.

The Sun Gazette's Jon Gerardi with a nice story about Dan Muthler, a 2 time PIAA Champ and Navy's last NCAA wrestling champ.

During the 1970-71 season, if memory serves, Dan at 138 pounds wrestled Gary Walk of Montoursville at Montoursville's gym packed with fans who eagerly anticipated the match up. Dan won quite handily, forcing Gary, who had post season aspirations, to drop to 133. Later that year at Rec Hall, both became PIAA champions.

who were the other national champs from dist 4
Gobel Kline--West Snyder, Maryland and Larry Lauchle---Muncy, Pitt

Floyd Hitchcock, Jim Martin, Scott Lynch, Zain (?) and perhaps others followed.

Coincidentally, Dan Muthler's photo appears on page 31 of the current edition AWN along with other NCAA champs of 1973.

Two more, John Hughes ('95- PSU/Benton) and Paul Keysaw ('91- Cal Poly/ Athens)
