Walk on or a scholarship???
Barbir will be a redshirt sophomore next year after Davis graduates this year, so he will have the opportunity to be a three year starter. This kid will be competing against him. Franklin just locked down the kicking game for the next six years.
You don't plan to have 2 scholarship kickers for 3 years.
He could be an important piece. I'd like to hear more about how he and PSU connected; how did Coach Franklin identify the kid as a target, and how did he get Pinegar to leave the Midwest to come on board? From BSD:
After signing kicker Alex Barbir in the 2016 class, can’t say I saw the Nittany Lions using a scholarship on another kicker again until 2019 or 2020. Here’s what Kohl’s Kicking has to say about Pinegar:
Pinegar recently attended the 2017 Midwest Spring Showcase. He is one of the best athletes in the 2018 class. He has explosive hips and fast leg. He charted well by making 9 field goals and also averaged 71.75 yards per kickoff. Having the ability to call on his "A" ball will need to be a focus this summer. His "A" ball on kickoffs, is in the top 5 nationally. Pinegar attended the 2016 Winter Showcase Camp in December. He charted very well going 8 out of 10 on field goals. He shows great control of his leg and with continued work on his leg strength he will do some special things as a specialist.

Yes. You plan to have 2 scholarship kickers over 6 years. There would be 3 eligibility years between Pinegar and Barbir.

CJF is now going to many places outside the natural recruiting area; it's a testimony to his hard work, the attractive features of the University, and the growing reputation of the football program. Really something to watch and enjoy.

Never underestimate the value of explosive hips. I once had a girlfriend blessed with that trait in her DNA. Those were the days!
