Kentucky vs Florida game was on SEC today

I will say that overall, your fan base doesn’t have a great knowledge of football. In fact, I’m heading to church here in a couple of minutes to save seats for the 4:00 Christmas mass and will discuss this game with about 40 different people. Funny thing is, I have to convince most people I talk to down here that UK has a legit chance in the game because they see Penn State vs. UK and assume it is an uneven matchup. I do like this UK team. Tough, disciplined football.
Merry Christmas to you.[/QUOTE]
Just because we’ve sucked for years doesn’t mean our fanbase doesn’t know football. There’s a lot of UK fans that are football first and have been through the roughest seasons imaginable. We don’t have any history comparable to penn state and that’s why most people talk about us the way they do. That’s fine. I’m Not here to look for validation that we have a good football team. Just to talk football. Merry Christmas to you too.

I’m not saying the fan base doesn’t know football because the football team has sucked for years. I’m saying it because I live here and people (not all, but many) just don’t really seem to get the intricacies of the game.

After the selection show I went back and watched some. I probably will watch more here in the next few days since I have time. How much UK football have you watched?
I already said, I have seen at least parts of every game. And I have also already said, this is a really strong UK team that is in pretty equal footing with Penn State. Most perceived difference is from looking at the names of the teams playing.

I’m here to talk football. Trace didn’t exactly burn up the stat board. He plays smart football and doesn’t turn it over very often. But you play soft defenses.

I’d be willing to bet if Snell was in your backfield trace would have thrown the ball a lot less too.

Again, you guys missed playing two of the best defenses in the SEC. The more you write, the more you come across as one of those programmed fans. "SEC is the best; everything else sucks."

And very doubtful on the if we had Snell comment. We had Barkley last year. Still threw the ball. Big question is, what will Wilson look like without Snell next year?

I like your here to talk football but don't go throwing around things, at least over here that dont stick. For instanceA We threw the ball 454 times in 2017 with Sauquon Barkley in the backfield. So I don't think Snell (who I think is good) would have changed anything. We also had some damn good WR's, 2 of which are playing in the pros right now.

We threw the ball 329 this year. So your point is moot
Soft defenses? We played OSU, MSU and Michigan not soft at all.
Please talk football but don't make up stuff.

Edit: actually I take some of that back. If Snell was as good as Barkley out of the backfield maybe would would have passed more.

I’m not an SEC fan at all. I don’t ride the coattails of the conference. They’ve done nothing buck kick our ass.

Honestly I think our team will be better without Snell. We had to concentrate our offense around him which put us behind the chains a lot. I’ll be happy to see the production spread around the field next year rather than just in Benny’s hands.

If Snell was in the PSU backfield, there's a good chance he'd be playing behind Miles Sanders.

His "theory" of us throwing less if Snell was in our backfield is wrong.
Us playing soft defense is wrong....
Our coaches play different styles of football. I probably was wrong about passing numbers if you had snell. Outside of the top 3 the defenses you played were not great.

Isn't the theory on this board the worse our RB is the more carries they get because the D won't key on them? So, he may be right depending on who you think is better Snell or Miles...

Depends what games he's watched. If he watched the first half of the season or the Michigan game then I understand why he made the "soft defense" comment.

I think the comment was intended to be that we played against soft defenses. Not rock solid SEC defenses.

Yeah, only got crushed by Michigan. You make a valid point about us not beating a ranked opponent. We don't have a great win this year. It can be argued that our best win is App State and Michigan State is a bad loss.

The confidence comes from this being Penn State vs Kentucky. It come from the difference in talent. It comes from the assumption that Trace is healthy again. On paper, Penn State should be he favorite.

I don't have any idea who wins. Probably whichever team wants it more. That might be Kentucky. It might be Penn State. Truthfully, I don't care who wins. Just hope it's a competitive game so I can kill a few hours watching football so New Year's Day.

Whatever happened to 78Sweetrevenge? That guy was great.

We've played the number 1, number 6, number 7 and number 14 NCAA teams in total defense.. and none of them were Ohio State. Anyway.. we'll play you next week and see how things go. A healthy Trace McSorley and a defense that has been improving all season will be ready to finish on a good note.

Snell averaged 6.5 YPC against FLA (27/175).

And 3.5 against South Carolina, 5.0 against Murray State, 3.5 against Missouri, 4.1 against Tennessee who everyone beat up on, and only 4.5 against Middle Tennessee, whoever they are.....

If he is pushing forward for 3-4 yards on every carry and he had multiple games against so so teams where he averaged 3.5 ypc, then either his OL didn't create any holes against those so so teams or he has trouble finding the holes....

Snell has 1330 yards this season. Not exactly a slow second half of the season. He’s had a good year. Almost all of his yards come after first contact. That’s why he leads the country in yards after contact. He should be good and healthy so I’m excited to see him hopefully break the record.
At 5 ypc he must get hit in the backfield a lot.:)

True, his numbers ebbed and flowed from game to game....like Saquan's did throughout his career. The point being (if it wasn't already obvious) he's had a very good season and he's a good back. If people have difficulty coming to grips with this, so be it.

For the twentieth time, just because the game has no meaning (which it doesn't) I'm still going to watch it because I enjoy football. I don't care if we win or lose as it will have impact on the way I view this season. 2 games matter. Alabama-Oklahoma & Clemson-Notre Dame. Hopefully one day in the near future we can play in one of those games.

It's not a matter of coming to grips. UK rode him and won games. But his numbers are not outstanding. A 5.0 ypc is not outstanding. Sanders beat that by a considerable margin, and most PSU fans were not totally enamored by PSU's running game this season, although it was better statistically than some recent years when PSU had the current once in a decade NFL rookie RB.

The point is that UK's running game is not outstanding even with a future NFL draft choice at RB, and it was pretty much shut down by a couple defenses that may or may not be even as good as PSU's.

And of the top 30 NCAA rushing leaders he is only tied for 26th in YPC. 82 yards more than Miles Sanders on 56 additional carries. Only 3 of the top 30 had a worse YPC. Some here are making Snell out to be a clone of Jonathan Taylor who averaged 7.1 YPC for the season..... oh wait, PSU beat Wisconsin pretty convincingly.....

Yes, he had a good year. But it wasn't impressive.

He had 100+ 3 times in his last 8 games after going 100+ 3 out of his first 4. And those last 3 came vs. Vandy, Middle Tennessee and Louisville.

He was an AP 3rd team All-American selection. To say he wasn't impressive isn't fair to the kid. He was consistent all year. He's not a guy that rips off 20+ yard runs so his YPC aren't going to be out of this world but he's a very good college back that was definitely impressive and has been during his career.

Honestly, saying he's not impressive is like people saying Trace didn't have a great year in 2018. Look past the numbers and factor in everything.

kyhunter110, don't let these heathens scare you off. I think you've been nothing but respectful in this thread (the only one i've seen with you in it). you've just said things that a select portion of this forum disagree with. Don't take it personally, most of them get super defensive when someone says something they disagree with.

- Snell is a very good RB and can cause fits, but so can Miles Sanders
- Dual threat QBs are scary whoever they are
- Kentucky has a higher ranked D in average stats (Rushing D, Scoring D, total D) Penn State has a higher ranked D in "flashy" stats (sacks, 3rd down D, INTs, Passing D)

should be a good game. I think it's gonna come down to leadership. Gotta go with TS9 on this one.

I don’t take anything too seriously. Just like to hear opinions from other sides. Especially non conference fans that we don’t play but once in a blue moon. I’m pretty excited for our team to play a tradition rich football program. Here’s to a good, injury free game. Good luck!
